Sweater knitting dilemma. I always block, then seam, then do button bands, etc. But I’m traveling, and I finished my sleeves (much faster than I expected to!). Do I seam and/or knit the button band without blocking? The idea makes me feel twitchy!

I have so many! Pre-tech-boom Seattle in the 70’s-early 80’s, movie audiences were fun and rowdy! The crowd roared when the Death Star blew up; people yelled “Get ‘im, come on!” during the final fight in Rocky; we danced in the aisles during Stop Making Sense.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

The Atlantic, acting like they know what labor solidarity looks like and scolding the left for not siding with racists. Ha fucking ha
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

As a person with permanent vision loss from shingles, with scaring on my eye that means I may eventually lose sight on that side entirely, I am here to tell anyone who will listen: get your shingles vaccine as soon as you are eligible!
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

Okay, I’ll go. Five animals I’ve seen in the wild:

Moose
Grey whale
Orca whales
Sea turtle
Puffin

The moose was a few feet away. The whales I saw off boats (not whale watching ones); the orcas were a whole pod that went by on all sides of us. Swam with the turtle for a while. Puffins are cute.
I’ll play. Five animals I’ve seen in the wild:

Mountain Goat
Roosevelt Elk
Bighorn Sheep
Pronghorn Antelope
Gray Whale

(Lots of others but these are the showstoppers)
something something five animals we've seen in the wild

banana slug
skunk
some kind of scorpion
elephant seal
albino squirrel

Why is everyone talking about Star Wars today?

My daughter is at the Mariners game. According to her they have never lost when: 1) she’s wearing her Ichiro jersey, 2) she’s wearing her M’s pride cap, 3) she’s had her copy of Infinite Jest with her, or 4) she’s gotten food at the park. She’s doing all 4 today - let’s go Mariners! 🔱⚾️

Ah, the Mariners giving us the disaster we knew was coming. As they do.
October 16, 2025 at 2:13 AM
100% facts
Mariners fans are just as confused as anyone by what is happening. We live in constant expectation of disaster immediately following anything good happening.

I really didn’t think we’d be coming home 2-0 in the ALCS. Was hoping we could keep it to 1-1. This is unreal. I don’t even know what to do with myself. Go Mariners! 🔱
October 14, 2025 at 12:52 AM
I’ve been watching the Mariners from the very beginning. I was 6 when I went to my first game, and my heart has been with them ever since (and it’s been broken so many times!). I’ve built a family of M’s fans. With everything being pretty terrible, we’re finding our spot of joy with this team. 🔱⚾️

I managed to hear almost nothing about Sinners except that I should go see it (on purpose). It was SO GOOD! SO GOOD

Happy birthday to Riley, my first baby. For those who have known me a long time, he turns 27 today. Enjoy feeling old along with me 😭

Amazing show! Plus they were repping my beloved Mariners, so it was basically a perfect night.

This is me, too.
Trying to keep your child safe without letting them see you panic, all day, every day. It takes so much out of us.
One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do is swallow my rage and not scream “They’re going to kill us all!” every damn day.

Because I have a child who needs to feel safe, even when everything around us is on fire.

And this means uncomfortable conversations sometimes! I swear I feel like easily half of the ignorance we’ve been seeing from younger folks is because their parents were afraid to talk to them about hard things.
3. Teach the Truth.

If you have young people around you, talk to them. Teach them. About history, about life, about what’s actually possible. This country thrives on ignorance because ignorance is easy to control.

Last night it got a little cold and I got out this blanket to put over my legs. My Obaachan (grandmother) crocheted this - most likely from leftovers from other projects. She died about 30 years ago. But here she is - her work, from her hands. How cool is that?

My current #TemperatureBlanket progress - I’m a week behind because we had the Red Alder Fiber Arts show last week. But, I have moved to the second background color! And I know have some warmer temps coming…

#ShowMeYourKnits Stripes! This is my Shorescape sweater, designed by Amy Herzog, yarn 🧶 is Cariboubaa by @indigodragonfly.bsky.social
I knit this about 8 years ago, still wear it all the time, and it still looks great (tight twist on the yarn and a firm gauge? Yes, please)!
