The worst part of coming home after a holiday is having a large cat physically touching me for the next week. I'm trying to put the washing on and catch up with post, and this fucker is trying to get inside my skin.

the only "honor" Watson's getting from me is that i've built a lab full of outstanding students who are everything he hated: Black, Indigenous, female, trans, queer, neurodivergent, disabled, immigrant, and beyond.

he might be what the past of our field looks like- but the future looks like my lab.

As an extremely selfish, fundamentally lazy person, I'm getting increasingly irritated with the state of the world. I don't want to have to care about people's gender, and fight for the fact that they probably know their own gender better than some rando in a changing room. I just want to chill.

Ugh. Home. Can't believe I have to actually think about meals, rather than just picking off a menu.

Nothing will put me off a book faster than describing it in tropes. Even when it's an author I already know and like.

I mean, I know we live in linear time and that 1981 was forty-four years ago, so on an objective level "Adam Ant is 71 today" must be a factual statement about reality.
But also, that's clearly bollocks. Adam Ant can't be 71.
Adam Ant is 71 today. Hard to emphasise how seismic this was in playgrounds across the country in 1980. For a period he was as big as any act has been. Was he the perfect pop star? I think so. It couldn't last but if you were there you'll never forget it.

Whatever else comes out once the attack on the ECML train last night, this alone is a credit to the train crew, driver, and signalling team.

Huntingdon was the first possible stop. In a highly stressful situation and improvising a plan the train lost just 3 minutes vs line speed to get there.

Superb.
As a former colony of a kingdom, Iceland has vestigial rules around royalty, for instance monarchs and heirs are called by Icelandic names, e.g. William and Catherine are Vilhjálmur and Katrín. Now, Icelandic state radio has declared that Andrew is no longer Andrés, illustrated with a based graphic.
Andrés verður Andrew - RÚV.is
„Andrés eða Andrew, þarna er efinn.“ Nú þegar Andrés prins er ekki lengur prins, á að kalla hann Andrés lengur eða er hann einfaldlega Andrew? Fréttastofa leitaði ráða hjá málfarsráðunauti RÚV.

Gluggaveður is an Icelandic word that translates to "window weather," describing a situation where the weather looks pleasant and sunny from a window but is actually cold, windy, or otherwise unpleasant outside. It refers to weather that is enjoyable from the inside but not for being outside in.

I was on a train with an AFP friend (Thorin), and a long string of jokes ended up with us giggling hysterically at Shven the Shvedish Porn Shtar. And time and shifting social media means we're no longer in touch, but I still occasionally think of Shven and giggle to myself.

And many of those horny women were also (or became) tech nerds.
The web - as we know it - isn't just the result of tech nerds talking to tech nerds. It's also the product of women who were not allowed to be horny on mainstreet discovering they could be horny on main.
