Trump flipped Bucks County, a swing county in Pennsylvania, last year.

The GOP sheriff enthusiastically followed his lead, partnering with ICE to help Trump’s deportations.

Dems flipped the office by 11% last week, ousting the sheriff after promising to end the ICE contact.
Voters Ousted This Pennsylvania Sheriff After He Signed Up to Collaborate With ICE - Bolts
A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

Always slow walk cloture and other votes in situations like this. Even when you think you've lost. Especially in this administration, you have to give lightning time to strike.

Chuck reopened the government and Trump still said stop SNAP and the SCOTUS seems willing to hear him out! Who on earth could've predicted Trump would still stop SNAP even after the shutdown ended and SCOTUS would help him starve Americans?
#BREAKING: Over a public dissent from Justice Jackson, #SCOTUS *extends* the temporary pause of the district court’s order that had mandated full SNAP payments for November—keeping that ruling (and those payments) on hold through the end of the day this Thursday:

For the Americans arrogant enough to believe they can “do their own research” and challenge trained virologists and immunologists on vaccines, handling this will be a piece of cake.
The key here is @they’re gonna feel like entrepreneurs.”

Trump knows that this is always a pathway for support from a certain segment of Americans - mostly men. The desire to “invest” and be an “entrepreneur.” Even without expertise, capital, or the resilience to endure failure.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Would've been awesome to have just objected to speed-running any one of the THREE CLOTURE VOTES that the Senate took inside of 24 hours to rush this bill out of their hands.

But no.
In other words, the Court is trying to buy itself two more days to see if the House approves the shutdown deal (which may well moot this case), rather than having to rule *now* on whether USDA can be forced to fully fund SNAP for November. And KBJ objects because she’d just deny the application now.

You have to understand what pieces like this from the NYT are and are not.

They are not an honest assessment of the state of politics today.

They are a negotiation tactic—an effort by a calcified, right-leaning legacy institution to steer the discourse in a direction more palatable to elites.
