How and why police actually support the federal invasions—I have been working on this article for ~6 months, trying to make sense of Trump’s nationwide surge of DHS officers, how it has evolved, what brought us here, and what will remain after it ends.

In the US academia is becoming unviable outside the R1 environment. And soon it will be unviable outside the ultra-elite tier of R1s. The UK is in a similar situation. The few European institutions in the global/Anglo R1 game are holding up for now, but it’s scary.

I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.

The idea of "pull factors" has become essential for how many parties approach immigration. In their desperate attempt to respond to the radical right, they look for levers that signal agency. Imaginary pull factors are necessary for the just-do-something approach that wants to signal toughness.
Do they understand how mad they sound? As if anyone has ever decided to cross the Channel in a small boat because, if they make it, they might get to take a free taxi to a doctor's appointment?

"Pull factors" on steroids.
