What Israel is doing is horrific, so it's really hard to talk about. But the way I/P is talked about in America has so much antisemitism and orientalism baked into it. Plus the usual thing that foreign conflicts are just rhetorical devices for domestic disputes.

A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

Apparently, the people at @politico.com’s morning newsletter have adopted what I assume to be the GOP/Trump position on the elections this week which is “no big deal, typical off year election, the GOP will be fine if it does more on the economy, not really a sign for future elections”

So, I’m pretty sure no one is gonna take an accountability here, but these commentators were embarrassingly wrong.
My continuing frustration with the coverage of the NJ Governor’s race is the unstated, but completely obvious, decision made to treat this as Ciattarelli’s race to lose.
