Lots that is grotesque here, but I think the key thing to notice is the zero-sum worldview: if we take in a 5yo immigrant, this somehow displaces or harms at 5yo American kid. There's a finite pool of "American" to distribute.

A zero-sum worldview is the molten core of reactionary thinking.
Gonzales on Liam Ramos and his family: "They're not gonna qualify for asylum. So what do you do with all the people that go through the process and do not qualify for asylum? You deport them. I understand that 5-year-old and it breaks my heart. I also think, what about that 5-year-old US citizen?"

Real facts. There are two Cheez-It manufacturing plants and each handles different flavors and duties. One is in Kansas City.

You can tell which plant made the cracker by the number of divots on the sides.

Surprisingly, the shorter side gets more divots than the longer side.

This story goes deep.
i'm not a "They Changed The Color Of The Sun" mandela guy but they're giving us less cheezit per cheezit these days. they used to be almost square

It's amazing how conservatives shoot themselves in the foot. I did not give a shit about Bad Bunny before this week and now I'm ready to shell out for his whole back catalog and maybe throw off a few hundred bucks to see him live

I absolutely love that Italy has put together a beautiful and super Italian ceremony and are perfectly comfortable saying "but these parts we're outsourcing to Charlize Theron and Mariah Carey". Italy is the fucking best

Some weeks solo parenting is totally fine, others it is very very very much not. Today a snowstorm buried our first still-extant snowstorms so I will let you guess which kind of week this was.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.
