So much is going on that I somehow missed that an American Secretary of War is having a public fit about fat generals and the unruly bodies of military men... say what you want about our current moment, you can't deny the big Elihu Root energy.

I’m seeing a lot of well-meaning commenters on here call out what they see as Nazi or Soviet tones in this speech. Glad to see the outrage, but:

Historians have documented that this rhetoric is about as American as it gets, with long and deep histories in US law, policy, literature, and medicine.
RFK Jr: "This administration wants to encourage Americans to take control of their health -- to eat right, to have lifestyle changes that save us all. And that's the patriotic thing to do, not only for our country but for every individual American. It's a patriotic duty to keep ourselves healthy."

Absolutely. 63% of nursing home patients in the US are paid by Medicaid. If these services are eliminated or cut, it will not only be devastating for patients, caregivers, and their families but also for many local businesses and economies. www.kff.org/medicaid/iss...

This page from my mother in law’s 1940s American songbook is a good reminder of how very common these dangerous diseases were and how grateful I am not to have had to contend with them with my own children, because of vaccines.
