I feel the same about architecture criticism -- it needs to be out there in the mix. And, frankly, much of it these days could easily be in Metro, Opinion, Climate, Ideas ...
"There are still plenty of places to read about literature, many of them excellent.... But they are produced for an audience that already knows it cares about literature. The books section of a newspaper plays an altogether different role. It does not cater to aficionados; it seeks new recruits."

When I got the chance to write this article, I wanted scholarship that put the preservation of the White House in context. I see three themes in the story:

1. Reification of expertise
2. Growth of executive power
3. Use of DC as a testing ground

White House Architecture Was an Honor System. Trump Noticed.
For 125 years, informal norms constrained what a president could do to one of the nation’s most famous landmarks.

The 51st recently hired our first salaried employee (!) by bringing Christina on full-time as Executive Editor. Now, we need to hire Martin as our full-time reporter!!! You can help us get there by tossing a few dollars (or more...) to our fundraiser. 🥳 51st.news/help-us-hire...
