This is yet another reminder that Elbridge Colby believes in nothing so much as he believes in Elbridge Colby’s career, and it’s been okay to not take him seriously since January 6, 2021. www.politico.com/news/2025/09...
Pentagon plan prioritizes homeland over China threat
This marks a major departure from the first Trump administration, which emphasized deterring Beijing.

Can we stop pretending that The Market is The Solution to all problems, please?

Most of the suggestions in here either don’t understand the problem, suggest a solution that will increase bureaucratic overhead, or both. About the only one I like is moving COCOM HQs to defense-wide, a simple idea.

Ok but this could be a key ingredient (or the precursor to one) for solving our biggest challenge vis-a-vis revanchist powers: at the moment we’re a status quo power.

Whether we like it or not, the PRC has a positive message, as in one that is forward-looking and forward-moving. Said vision…
move over one billion americans. we're doing ten billion americans now
Great episode! It strikes me that a good marker to place in anticipation of post-Trump constitutional battles would be a universal citizenship amendment - one granting every human being, without exception, full citizenship of the United States

Ok, so this WOTR piece ruined my evening, so some writing therapy/rant🧵:
As a personal rule of thumb, if someone sells you a magic tool able to completely solve a problem/revolutionize a field, he a) either has a really great tool (could be) or b) doesn't understand the problem/field (more likely).

The idea that you can

1. Get the DoD to fund you to build a satellite constellation
2. Make it pay you a subscription fee for using the thing you built with tax payer dollars and especially DoD funding

is beyond silly and peak VC bro brainrot

I don’t really give a shit how much of a conservative this makes me sound like, but the United States has suffered an existential collapse in the civic virtue of our citizens necessary to sustain a liberal democracy.

I truly believe this to be the case, and I have no fucking idea how to fix it. It's the thing that keeps me up at night more than any other. Where do we even start?

The absolute worst thing about this (which I was late to realize, as were a couple other who think about this stuff), worse than pseudo-PCs on signal, worse than TS on signal to Jeffery fuckin Goldberg, is we have ironclad undeniable proof there is no unified chain, not even a facade
