“we shouldnt round people up for crimes they didnt commit” seems like a fairly reasonable position to take but as of right now are there any dem electeds with the courage to say it?

It is not about Kimmel or what he said. It is about the US government forcing a network to fire someone - no government should have that power. If the network decided this on their own, that’s one thing. But in this case they absolutely did not.

“Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork among MAGA activists…We find [they] are not simply voters responding to policy preferences or culture-war appeals but are also participants in a social movement organized around a shared perception of lost honor, declining esteem, and institutional disrespect.”

NEW: It’s often said that a budget is a declaration of values. So how much do New York lawmakers value fighting climate change?

About 0.4 percent, according to the newly approved state budget.
State Budget Goes Small On Climate
New York’s budget includes $1 billion for climate action — a record amount, but less than the state was supposed to raise by charging polluters.

are you a ny voter trying to call @schumer.senate.gov right now? lol sorry they turned off their voice mailbox!
omg his staff flipped the voicemail system to their December holiday recess recording (which doesn't let you leave a vm) so they didn't have to hear the incoming sentiments. it wasn't like this two days ago. they all need to go.

Which elected official brings the greatest shame upon Brooklyn? We have a strong trifecta with Schumer, Jeffries and Adams, but perhaps I’m leaving someone out who’s even more deserving?

admittedly very funny for democrats to spend weeks saying “if only there was something we could do?!” and then immediately folding when confronted with the one thing they could do lol

NEW: Colorado last year became the first state to mandate that all jails set up in-person polling places. (Remember: most people in jail are held pretrial & retain voting rights, but practically it's super hard for them to vote.)

And then? Turnout soared — multiplied by roughly 10 over 2022:
Jail Voting Soars in Colorado After State Mandates Polling Places in County Lockups - Bolts
Local officials had claimed they were already giving detained people ballot access, but Colorado's first-in-the-nation mandate forced their hands and increased turnout across the state.

If you're curious how a democracy transitions from a free press to state-run media, this is the kind of step you'd expect to see.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announces that the White House Correspondents' Association will no longer choose the pool reporter.

"Moving forward, the White House press pool will be determined by the White House press team."

I follow French politics a lot, as many of you know. Any effort for mass layoffs of public sector employees there would create such huge strikes and marches, the level of disruption and paralysis would be biblical.

White students in rural Pennsylvania created a group called the “Kool Kids Klub” (KKK), wore Confederate flag clothing, and told a Black student to “go pick cotton.” The US Department of Education investigated the school district, but now Trump has halted their civil rights investigations.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.
