Blaming a community instead of blaming the deeply disturbed individual who committed this violent crime is irresponsible and inflammatory.

A responsible MLA would never paint with this broad brush, before any details were confirmed.

This is a tragedy, not an opportunity to score political points.
Just hours after the horrific mass school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, right-wing media and politicians are using this moment to incite more violence, hatred and moral panic against transgender people.

It's absolutely abhorrent that this is the message politicians like Tara Armstrong decide to send.

Canada agreed to pay for the full cost of construction, land acquisition on the US side, and connecting Interstate highway links, AND also isn't charging tolls on the US side of the bridge. This amounts to saying America should be allowed to steal Canadian money.
Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Trump's bonkers US-Canada bridge tantrum: "There's a valid concern on the part of the president that this bridge was allowed to be built, they didn't necessarily use American content. There's a question as to the proceeds of tolls."

So the official position of the Attorney General of the United States is that we should let the Epstein stuff slide because the stock market is good?

Really??

The hearing today feels like a new low for Bondi
Bondi crashes out over Epstein: "The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That's what we should be talking about."

Anyone interested, please feel free to DM me to join.

Interesting.

Going by this discussion forum, all forms of STRs, including purpose-built STR hotels, appear to be a political loser of an issue.

Is there much Canadian issue polling on the subject?

Two interesting and consequential votes at Kelowna City Hall yesterday. I watched online.

A 7-2 vote to advance an industrial site (golf course conversion) to public hearing. Cannan and Lovegrove opposed.

A 7-2 vote to reconsider a theatre site. Dyas and Wooldridge opposed.

Two things I’m not sure is widely understood:

1. Many public servants no longer have their own desks and work in transient government co-working spaces

2. Many describe a Kafkaesque existence of going to physical offices only to spend their time on video calls with the people sitting next to them

Agree, I would worry for a left that doesn't recognize how critical the shortage of homes is to the crisis. The supply shortage isn't the only thing, but it's a fundamental driver.

This is why BC’s housing crisis hasn’t been solved yet

There is an irony these types of people go their entire elected careers not understanding; they position themselves as free market adherents everywhere else, and fail to see the inconsistency of wanting parking management that is akin to a Soviet politburo allocating space for cars from on high.
"I just can't imagine current requirements being adequate," says Cheng of visitor parking. She rejects the idea that the "market" should decide the amount of visitor parking in a new building, because people buying units just assume parking will be available and don't think about it before they buy.

I remember, back in the Bill 44/47 days in BC, when I was expecting to see meaningful municipal finance reform.

Perhaps a bonded utility model? Perhaps other types of externality pricing?

Sadly we continue on with DCCs and the ticking time bomb of cities able to implement ACCs too.

Interesting proposal.

Out here our mayor was accused of dangling RDCO appointments (and the extra pay) and/or taking them away from councillors who voted against him on issues.

Probably should equalize compensation, regardless of appointments, and have direct elections to the RDCO.

But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.
