I was certain it was FIRE before I clicked the link
Any "free speech" organization that partners with the Manhattan Institute to file an amicus brief is not actually a "free speech" organization.
NEW: A prominent free speech group helped right-wing dark money score a legal win against an Ohio school board and its anti-bullying policy, which protected transgender and nonbinary students.

Last year I wrote a big piece about property taxes and how they’re calculated and how they interact and compare with things like income tax, property values, my personal budget, and the city budget. A...

I had a former colleague make up focus groups in local newspaper editorials. He has a laughingstock. Anyone who does this should be too.
I’m sorry, but it is disgraceful to be an academic who uses this technology to conduct research. It should be prohibited in all of our scholarly institutions, including universities and journals.

$100 says there are texts where Brooks asks Epstein’s advice for how sleep with his RA.
Everyone who is having a pleasant holiday season because they aren't in the Epstein files, step forward.

Not so fast, David Brooks.

Congrats to Meg Lugar Nikolai and Shelley Buck on primary victories tonight. Strong wins are testament to the hard work you and your teams are doing.

Thank you to every candidate in the field.

Excited to hit the doors with you both before the January general and to serve our neighbors together.💙

Larry Jacobs remains a profoundly unserious political thinker, his column exhorts the new Her Admin to put apartments into the Landmark Towers. It’s a great idea! So great that it happened in June of this year in the Carter Admin.

The idea that universities should use the expertise of their faculty is both obvious and revolutionary
+1 but also use in-house expertise as much as possible!

Smart folks exist in the university and as much as capacity allowed this can be done internally!

(I’ve long been a proponent of building internal capacity)
Faculty organizations at every campus should hire forensic accountants to a) investigate university finances and b) provide intensive trainings for the token faculty who get placed on budget and finance committees

And faculty
Predicting that some universities will soon pledge to provide AI-free instruction, and that this will be an advantage in recruiting and training top students
Nothing will make you an education AI skeptic faster than grading some college take home assignments. Admins who haven’t been in a classroom in years push it as a learning tool. Students are laughing at them as they use it as a cheating tool. It’s all instructors are texting about with each other.

“It’s imperative that industry set our curriculum and that faculty be forced to do random updates every year.” Any university that interviews Purdue’s provost to be president should be ashamed of itself.

Gonna do a thread here in praise of @megl.bsky.social, with a focus on a reasonable question to ask about a race like 64A:

In a district that blue, does it really matter which Dem we elect? They're going to vote for the same things, right?

Even if that's true, I think Meg is the right pick.

Saint Paul: This past weekend we held our DFL convention for the 64A race where public school parent & powerhouse labor lawyer Meg Luger-Nikolai earned endorsement after five rounds of ballots.

Here’s her speech that shows exactly why she’d be effective on day one. Vote megfor64A.com on Dec.16th
