Screaming in Boston
San Diego rents fall 5.5%—proof that building housing works.

Add 6,000 apartments, prices drop.

This eases pressure on voucher programs, helps low-income renters, makes the city more accessible.

Want sustained affordability? Keep building.

‘Rental market is largely frozen’: San Diego rent prices fall in national rankings
National rents are down 2% annually but Zumper said Southern California is seeing more of a slowdown because of increased supply.

Quite sad we’ve seemingly given up on land use reform (upzoning), bus lanes, bike lanes, etc.

When Wu was elected 4 years ago she had clear tangible policy goals, but I’m honestly unsure what they are now (maintain status-quo?)
Michelle Wu seems like kind of a disaster for housing in Boston – very little progress on land use reforms, and supporting a quite draconian statewide rent control regime (rent hikes that can be below inflation, vacancy controls, only a 10-year exemption for new construction)? Yikes
Wu Backs Rent Control, Rejects Citywide Rezoning
Boston's mayor threw her support behind a ballot question legalizing rent control, while rejecting any moves to legalize denser housing in single-family districts.

It’s odd to me the MBTA Worcester/Framingham line schedule budgets 16 mins for the ride from Lansdowne to Back Bay

Even at a slow pace, it just took 3 mins

Any Boston folks know anything about the BU student protest at corner of Ivy/Carlton Streets in Brookline?

I passed by it on the way home and am just curious

I feel that stop signs and “dismount and walk signs” on multiuse paths are just meant to shift blame onto bikes/peds when they get hit by a car there
Instead of prioritizing and making walking and biking safer by putting in a raised crosswalk or stop signs for drivers, we get this bit of sociopathy support. Who asked for this?

“Josh Kraft’s mayoral campaign has apparently convinced too many people in City Hall who ought to know better that making streets safer and investing in public transit was politically risky.

Josh Kraft’s election results should debunk that theory for good.“
Editorial: Bike Lane Haters Keep On Losing - Streetsblog Massachusetts
As it turns out, a considerable number of informed voters understand that if we actually want less traffic, we need to design streets that favor more efficient modes of transportation.

Two people killed in the Boston area in car crashes today.

This is buried down at the bottom of the homepage since driving is so dangerous it's not really news.

Sometimes I’m flabbergasted by how good a deal electric bluebikes are

I was looking at an hour by MBTA, but instead paid half the price and got home in 14 minutes on an electric bluebike

Argentina is a relatively well-off country with currency issues - also with full healthcare for all its citizens. The US administration is supposedly bailing out their currency to the tune of $40B. In comparison, the jettisoned USAID budget, used for programs to keep people fed and alive, was $32B.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

I was about to cross, but the cars started moving because it was a HAWK signal 🙄

Nope. He's disgusted by car bloat.

100-mile bike ride today, and ~70% of it was on trails

Much of Boston road section had bike lanes, and the suburban roads were ok. Also, some of the road sections could be done on trail/sidewalk (e.g. waltham, southie), but road was ok alternative when considering speed

fascinating thing about this is that electricity prices are going nuts and the structural factors that should drive prices up (data center construction, climate, the increasingly un-ringfenced natural gas market) are not yet playing major roles in the price rises

which means it's only getting worse
More people should be talking about this.
