Let's make a more diverse osint starter pack - a 50/50 m/f split and a move away from westerners would be great. I've made a start (and yes, it's currently lots of men/westerners - help me shift the balance!) Can the community help me crowd source this?

News/post hygiene is something you need to train yourself to practice. Use your capacity for thinking before you react and share--we have evolved to think as a species, no reason to stop now. I'll say it again: you don't have to react to everyting you see online. www.linkedin.com/posts/bellin...

Which is why on online platforms, the block button is past of your self-care package. Letting bullies and cry-bullies waste your precious time with tantrums many five-year olds would be embarassed by is something you should prevent with every tool at your disposal.

This excerpt from a school district review of A Wizard of Earthsea is actually a fairly typical reaction to Ursula's work early in her career. As she once said, any original author has to teach people how to read her.

That's exactly what @kellylink.bsky.social and @gavingrant.bsky.social told us at Clarion too. That's kept me plugging through a number of difficult years and a triple-disability fatique (while working full time to pay the bills). Keep. Writing.
I met @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com briefly at Clarion West 2015 (thanks to my classmate, Laurie Penny) and he told us that the single best predictor of who will be successful is simply who keeps going.

I’ve kept going and will keep going and am thankful for that small nugget that has since fueled me

Understanding how you are being manipulated gives you the power to resist more effectively. Freedom of speech doesn't necessarily correlate or result from with freedom of thought. This is a great resource.
Most online speech is hosted on algorithmic platforms designed to optimize for engagement. But algorithms are not neutral. Read other essays in our "Algorithmic Amplification & Society" project series, in collaboration with @randomwalker.bsky.social. Learn more: knightcolumbia.org/research/alg...

If you want to know why the whole world hates the US (don't worry, they really do) it's because of things like how Algeria drew up a ceasefire resolution for the UN & the US already expressed its intent to veto this. There is no logical objection to ceasing bombardment on Palestinians but genocide.
UN likely to vote Tuesday on Gaza ceasefire, US signals veto
The United Nations Security Council is likely to vote on Tuesday on an Algerian push for the 15-member body to demand an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, said diplomats, a move the United States signaled it would veto.
