...omg, I think fucking Eckels stepped on the butterfly.
If you don't think that there's been a concerted effort to remove critical thought from public education over the last few decades, you haven't been paying attention.

If women submitting to men was a natural way of being, they would not have needed laws, religion & violence to get them to do it.

If you’re not white, or you have friends or loved ones who aren’t white, or you’re not a total sociopath and therefore care about fellow humans who aren’t white, you need to understand this regime thinks not being white is inherently suspect, and lots of your fellow Americans are fine with that.

I went to journalism school. I have a degree in this shit. I had one of the great editorial page editors and writers I’ve ever encountered for a professor, twice. And I gotta tell you: they do not teach you to studiously avoid calling racism or genocide by their names. That’s NYTimes making Choices.

I have gone out of my way to make sure my 3yo doesn't know that I don't like spiders. I relocate them and talk about how curious jumping spiders are.

Based on how utterly delighted she was to have a wee jumper *on her face* the other day, I think I've succeeded.

But between us: EWWW GROSS OMG WTF.

I'm not gonna lie, y'all: even nearly a decade into this, it still feels surreal that a sitting POTUS can do one long, bizarre stream-of-consciousness ramble about whatever silly shit happens to pop into his head on national television, and political media still shrug their shoulders + write it up.

Your Prime Day reminder that half of Amazon warehouse workers struggle with food & housing costs.

A third have had to rely on government assistance like SNAP — which is about to get cut.

If Bezos can spend $50M on a wedding, Amazon can afford to treat its workers with dignity.

@mayorofchicago.bsky.social I think I speak for all of the commuting public of Chicago when I say PLEASE CAN WE NEVER HOST NASCAR EVER AGAIN?

What a mess. No need to continue Lightfoot's parting "gift" to the city. It's not actually for us.

Politics in the US today is about as morally simple as it has ever been. The only relevant question is “Do you support totally eviscerating the already threadbare US social safety net to fund a system of concentration camps for immigrants and people of color, or do you not support that?”

If it took 8 days to build a massive concentration camp in Florida then it means they could build and house the homeless at any point but choose not to

They also asked, every single time, at least two questions that would have helped me in a DV situation.

That's one fewer safe place for women who need them.
I worked at Planned Parenthood.

They diagnose cancers while still treatable. They help women decide what birth control works for them. They help those working through mental health challenges.

Defunding them just harms people who already struggle to find places to get care.

I live in a time where I am simply supposed to accept that this sentence exists

BREAKING: A federal judge in Tennessee ruled that Kilmar Abrego Garcia will stay in jail for now over concerns that he could be deported if he’s released.

Amplifying.

As a white lady, the only thing I can add is: Damn, you miss out on some great food with that attitude. And more importantly: great conversations with great people while eating said great food.

I'm comfortable assuming that Medieval Times is the closest Brandon here has come. Pity.
As a Brown man who grew up with a family who all eat like this, I can't tell you how deeply this hurts and genuinely cuts. The racism is unbelievable. I eat like this and am proud to do so but it doesn't stop how painful the shock is that someone views you this way.

Oh, sure. To be clear, trans folks don't need to make my or anyone else's world better in order to be afforded the same human rights and dignity that everyone should be afforded. It's not a means test. You're supposed to have rights as a baseline. That my world is better with them in it is a bonus.
I think this is an excellent idea and hope many people follow your lead (hence the RT!) but I've found that I want to learn to start talking about the fight against violent dehumanization with no regard for whether the people being targeted make our lives better or sit on the couch eating ramen.

I will never NOT find it funny that they led us to one of our favorite book series.

Which they had banned.

Because the idea of a male bear raising four goslings he intended to eat posed an existential threat to the American family.

...yup.

Spoiler: It's a LOT.

There are the cops who sit in the cars on Michigan Avenue 24/7. They do absolutely nothing. All day and night.

But mostly it's the absolute fucking chaos cops generate whenever people who aren't white might possibly--gasp!--drive around waving flags. It's a HUGE overreaction.

When you do something you love (building a concentration camp) it doesn't feel like work.
Whoa! Alligator Alcatraz is going to be complete by Tuesday and open for operation on Wednesday.

Am I the only one wondering how Ron DeSantis got this together so fast?

Floridians, make sure you remember this the next time a hurricane hits and you can’t get disaster relief in your state.
