Just realizing how little I use social media to promote my work, so let me take a little time to talk about fmdtools.

Basically, fmdtools is a Python library for performing research into complex systems #resilience, focusing heavily on modeling and simulation.

Unclear why the industry didn’t take hydrogen seriously 7-8 years ago but it’s good some of them are now

I would be VERY interested to know the implications of this!
Secretary of Transportation Duffy named acting NASA administrator

In an unprecedented move, President Donald Trump announced late July 9 that he has named Transportation Sec. Sean Duffy as interim NASA administrator.

my issue with the hand wringing is that you've already lost it, this is the culture writ large, we're all just trying to cope that years of putting off dev of internal talent and process outside of orgs like GOOG has basically condemned us to a landscape where the baseline is de-facto vibe coding

VTA's inability to prevent or quickly end the strike is embarrassing and reflects really poorly on how much they value the public being able to rely on their system.

As the region is facing a tepid ridership recovery, it makes no sense to set roadblocks in front of transit use
Reminder: No bus or light rail service until further notice. We know how much our community depends on transit, and we’re working hard to resolve the labor dispute. For more information visit our website vta.org. Riders check Transit App for alternative transportation options.

It also kind of relies on the idea that scientists are inherently mobile and cosmopolitan enough to pick up and leave their families on the drop of a hat
Pet peeve: I hate how often ppl claim “all the researchers will just move to Europe/Canada!” You vastly under-estimate how little money there is there vs the USA- and unless that changes ASAP this loss is just going to decimate global science, full stop. 🧪🔭

No. Never.

I review 20+ of papers a year—it's my job as a scientist. The public pays my salary and trust me to use my time wisely to advance science. Through peer review, I do exactly that. I spend two or three weeks a year reviewing, but I’ve never wasted a day reviewing a paper, and never will.

Reading through the lines, it sounds like a lot of the team might set up a contract shop where they can charge the government (and private enterprise) much more money for the same stuff they were delivering in-house.

Good on them, but we should really pour one out for the notion of State Capacity

Very cool that this technology is being sold to students as a way to "get ahead" in school
The whole paper is an absolute nightmare funfair ride through the behaviours that have become almost instantaneously widespread through the professional world - something Microsoft have invested billions into accelerating and worsening no matter the consequences.
