Hello, new followers! Nice to have you. I am a NTT prof working on early modern and canon critical philosophy. I post on academia, unions/labor, parenting, music, & more. I currently work on Blaise Pascal and his philosopher sister Jacqueline Pascal. If you’re interested, I made a little thread.
Go home autumn, you’re drunk.

Maybe Mike is just an academic skeptic. You can’t blame him for not knowing current events he doesn’t know anything
except his own ignorance. The video? Don’t know. Twitter where he saw it? Don’t know. His phone with twitter? Don’t know. Basic metaphysical beliefs about reality? Don’t know.
Q: Just last week a minister was shot directly in the face with a pepper round by a DHS agent that left his face bloodied. Are you concerned that this is a religious freedom issue?

MIKE JOHNSON: I can't comment on any of those instances. I haven't seen or heard any of those videos

Men will literally start a war instead of going to therapy.

And by therapy I mean release the Epstein files.
why are we preparing for a possible war on Venezuela, the hell is this shit

This is a fair question, I try to answer in a short 🧵 why I think they matter.

1. Political will comes from pressure. Fear of being primaried is a start.
2. It creates amachine for collective action. With good leadership, this is our best path to a general strike right now.
Can I ask, what did the No Kings protest actually accomplish? I mean, in real terms, what have these protests materially changed? I can't help but feel these one off protests are merely a heatsink for energy and anger rather than a path for meaningful change and disruption of the system.

The protests today were scary. Thankfully the Jurassic wing of Antifa did not attempt to eat the Giraffe wing or frog resistance.

If Jack has the true belief that anti fascists have been around since the 1930s, but believes this on the false justification of fascist rhetoric, can we say Jack knows it’s true?
From Donald Trump's Roundtable on Antifa just now —
"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

What's a bit funny about this is that burning is, per flag code, the proper and respectful way to dispose of a flag.

I know that's missing the point, but still.

I’m still chugging along on my 2014 MacBook Pro. The battery isn’t great now, but it still does all I need it to do… even after dropping it a few times over the years.
A MacBook will last for yrs. And they’re quite durable. Don’t ask me how I know about the last part.

My final straw was when they generated an AI podcast on one of my papers without prior consent.

Anyway, Academia.edu is a grift. This seems like a good final straw if you haven’t deleted your account.
I'm sorry, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable permission to my voice and likeness? For what now? In any manner for any purpose???

This is in academia/.edu's new ToS, which you're prompted to agree to on login. Anyway I'll be jumping ship. You can find my stuff at hcommons.org.

It’s funny how antifa is talked about as if it were some secret organization and not just a bunch of random small groups of unaffiliated people whose only real commonality is thinking fascism is bad.

Because I didn’t grow up middle class I’m always amused by these middle class affects like RSVP for a protest lololololol

But also don’t fucking create a written record of intent to attend a protest unless you’re fine with that being used against you in court
We need your help to make October 18 the biggest peaceful protest of the year. Please spread the word, register your local event as soon as you can, and start RSVPing for the local protests to help build momentum: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i...
