we’ve got a ways to go until 2030 so this could change but it’s pretty much an across the board disaster if it doesn’t

building more housing isn’t just good policy, it’s existential politics

Landlords have always been super upfront about the relationship supply and demand have on charged rents yet for some reason we choose to believe there's some nebulous evil force that controls rent prices.
Oh woe me, a poor Berkeley landlord struggling to make a profit as rents fall from new development.

A heck of a chart: in every single one of the 10 major US cities that built the most housing between 2017 and 2023, rents for older, existing units fell—often by quite a bit.

Abysmal policy that will increase migration out of NJ because it's not actually trying to stop it, it's to score political points with a specific voting bloc.
Good news for over-65s homeowners in New Jersey: In February the state will be mailing you a check for up to $6,500. Only homeowners though - renters do not qualify. And the program is limited to households with an annual income of, lol, $500K or less. www.nj.com/news/2026/01...
When will I get my Stay NJ property tax relief?

Counterpoint: If you keep giving money to places that spit at you they're only encouraged to keep doing it while you disincentivize your actual supporters.

Ferguson proposing $3 billion in bonds for highways and vehicle ferries and then proposing to divert hundreds of millions in Climate Commitment Act dollars a few days later is such an incredible one-two punch.

RE: 300m iron tower
STATUS: APPLICATION DENIED

Proposals must be sensitive to the height, bulk, and scale of its surroundings. A 300m tower is an egregious departure from the neighborhood’s mid rise datum and the use of iron is inconsistent with the vernacular of the area

One big takeaway from Mamdani bringing YIMBYs into his transition is that advocates can often gain a lot of power by

1.) having useful answers to questions and accurate information

2.) being reasonably polite and pleasant to elected officials

3.) understanding the actual mechanics of government

One theory I have is that competence, self-control, responsibility, and expertise have all been feminized, leaving “masculinity” with the realm of impulsivity and petulance. So the divide is not really between “femininity” and “masculinity” so much as between adulthood and childishness.
Everything else aside, the idea that this is a model for many men of *masculinity* is so wild. This? This is "manly"? This is how people think it's cool to act?
