They replace parking for a car with safe storage for multiple bicycles, thus making cycling an option for many more people. @cyclehoop.bsky.social has done a great job with these in multiple places in the UK, but so far @bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social seems opposed. Elsewhere,meanwhile....

NYC is in the process of enacting a similar program that would consist of 500 stations of secure bike parking facilities across the five boroughs. We partnered with @cyclehoop.bsky.social and other orgs to work w/city on this-- but waiting to complete awards process. I can't say much else due...
One thing that London does well is that they have converted loads of parking spaces around the city into bike lockers. Rented by the local council, they are cheap, and make it much easier to use a bike if you live in a flat / shared house. Also safer to store e-bikes outside…
