I fell asleep yesterday mentally rereading my fave Frankenstein passages to soothe my mind so I’d stop bitching abt how shallow, juvenile and boring this interpretation was and instead I Dreamt of Continuing my Analytical Bitching
clutching my uncensored 1818 copy of Frankenstein and praying to Mary Shelley to apologize to her for having to wait still for people to stop butchering her work to try to make the same points in a less impactful way and also miss them entirely oh Mary my love

So many artists, writers, and designers I know have learned this lesson the tedious way, so let me co-sign this and say not only is it a huge waste of time and labor to listen to the "I'd buy that" crowd online, you will also lose money. Make what *you* want to make, everything else is noise
The biggest thing i've learned as an artist who sells prints and merch is don't make what people ask for. They won't buy it. Make what you, the artist, want to see printed on the support of ur choice.
I can't explain why but THAT'S what will sell. People who buy the most are the silent ones. 🫶

Remember, artists: when people say, “I’d buy a print of this,” they don’t mean it. That sentence itself is just a weird compliment that rarely converts to an actual print sale. It’s like if someone ate a very good hot dog and then said, “I could eat 10,000 of these right now.”

I do not like to talk about this bc it is, understandably, v upsetting, but I’ve been severely food insecure as an adult, at times for years on end. The toll sustained Hunger takes on you, body, mind and soul, is indescribable. It makes you sick in every sense of the word.

They have a contingency fund to ensure it’s covered in the event of a shutdown.
They’re refusing.
Grocery stores stepped up to try and help by offering discounts to any SNAP recipients and the USDA told them they had to stop.
Starvation as a policy choice.
