Slowly making a tutorial about how mixing footage in a log or gamma space often looks muddy, compared to mixing in a linear space which can even be purely additive and produce much more dreamy results :3

Someday I wanna mess with one of these fancy boxes with dicroics and 20+ channels of LEDs to create spectral references for characterizing sensors.

Makes the 'ole MacBeth chart seem quaint by comparison :p

a very well done video about the numerous different types of motion your eyes can detect, such as Critical Flicker Fusion, Contrast Reversal, Motion Blur, Phantom Array Effect, Stroboscopic effect, etc.

I need to mess with Apple's ASAF spatial audio format at some point, as it appears to solve some issues I've long had with the Atmos renderer. I'd really only monitor on my nicely DSP tuned 5.1 setup though, since I've yet to find a convincing HRTF for my head & ears.

The NFL's YouTube channel kinda messed up the Halftime upload.

The production company (Funicular Goats) did a live grade on-truck to produce a filmic SDR look within the HDR broadcast container, which then got shoved directly onto YouTube without a custom LUT so the SDR downconversion is quite dim.

My job has quickly gone from “so you see guys, ffmpeg is neat” to “hey can do you do these 14 things with ffmpeg by the end of the week cool thanks” and it’s entirely my fault x3

I often get asked for advice on display calibration, and I feel bad explaining that most solutions as-sold are basically scams.

You need a spectrometer to make colorimeter data useful, most OSes don't natively support 3D LUT correction, and if you're not careful it likely makes the situation worse.

I should update my Flickr more with a focus on comforting environments. I have quite a bit, but I know I would enjoy adding to it.

Sharpening algorithms behave differently in different colorspaces, especially between linear light vs gamma encoded. I feel like this is something most broadcast cameras and LUT boxes get wrong, plus many B4 lenses have intense chromatic aberrations, and graphics are chroma subsamped.

Nice video from RTINGS covering what things WiFi 7 certification covers & doesn't in various products, including some fun Wiresharking.

Spoiler: Not a single consumer or prosumer product implements MLO correctly at the moment.
