Obviously, the arc of history for the last decade has generally been suboptimal, but this has been a GOLDEN AGE for finding out people I've hated for niche, specific reasons are actually people everyone can hate for broad, easily-understood reasons.

Maybe it’s just the Humanities professor in me, but let it be noted that events of today (ahem) have demonstrated the value of being able to assess a large volume of qualitative data and do careful textual analysis with deep attention to context.

The Epstein stuff is always so amazing to me because it's like "yes he was a sex criminal but if you can get past that, he was also an avowed eugenicist"

The James Bond franchise faces a big problem: me, the viewer, has been shot at the start of the movie through the barrel of my gun, and I'm dripping blood over my own eye balls (they're in the gun)

SOCRATES: No god is a philosopher or seeker after wisdom, for he is wise already; nor does any man who is wise seek after wisdom.

PLATO: Neither do the ignorant seek after wisdom.

One unending theme in the history of Christianity is the powerful having a cosmic horror reaction to versions of it that take the stuff about 'the first shall be last' and rich ppl not getting into heaven seriously.

Not every powerful person, but an awful lot of them.
to quote @slacktivistfred.bsky.social, vampires fear the cross *because* it is powerless.

That indifference is a net benefit during good times, because voters generally don't care about expansions of trans rights. But it's a problem during bad times because, well, they're not going to get terribly angry about *erosion* of trans rights.

The thing to understand about the wave of transphobia plaguing our politics right now is that it does not nourish itself on the hatreds of ordinary voters. It nourishes on their indifference.

*sick of bullies

god damnit, I'm tired

But seriously, I think we've really reached as far as it'll go, at least politically. They've pushed, and pushed, and spent absolutely absurd amounts of money on anti-trans messaging, and it's just putting people off. Nobody wants to hear it any more.

I don't know if it's just me, but I've gotten the sense recently that transphobia a political tool is already played out. Not only is it not a winner, but it really feels like the right overplayed their hand with anti-trans hate and people generally seem sick of it, sick of bulling running on hate.
As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

the population of tokyo is about the same as the population of canada

we could double the population of the country and put all the new people in toronto and it would still be smaller than guangzhou

Every time "the internet is for seeing different points of view :)" posts go around I think of this post. the internet is about THIS 👇👇👇 I'm sorry if you missed the memo and think it's about politics or something
All Internet culture as we know it stems from its original primordial purpose: to argue about which Gundam series and Final Fantasy games are good or not instead of talking about basically anything else.
