Finally spent my Xmas vouchers. My purchases aren't usually so zeitgeisty, but I've been meaning to watch The Return for so long now. The Dylan book is so I can see just how fast and loose A Complete Unknown played with the facts. Enjoyed the film, but so much of it was obviously contrived bs.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer: I’ve got the balls to take an axe to Britain’s benefits bill – we’ll be RUTHLESS with cuts if needed.

How brave of him to impoverish the old, sick, poor, disabled, public sector workers; not curbing profiteering, corporate tax abuses.

SIR Keir Starmer insists he has “the balls” to take an axe to Britain’s bloated benefits bill. After two weeks of market turbulence, economists and banks have doubted the Labour government’s …

UK low- to middle-income families far poorer than OECD counterparts.

UK prices 8% higher, housing cost 44% higher.

Low income families - German families 21% or £2,300 a year better off; Dutch 39%.

Yet no curbs on profiteering, exploitation institutionalized.

Austerity has been discredited & 330,000+ deaths prove its deadly impact.

Yet benefit cuts are being briefed & disabled people are again made to pay the price for “calming” the markets.

Austerity with a red rosette is still austerity.

This isn’t the “change” people voted for.

I hate it when people say "we all have to tighten our belts" in defence of Labour.

a) We hated austerity under Tories.
b) Why do we have to tighten our belts? It literally means "eat less" and I don't want to eat less, cheers!
c) Why do the mega-rich never get asked to tighten their poxy belts!?

UK Tory govt spent £50,000 to stop release of review into disabled man’s death.

DWP wrongly stopped his benefits, leaving him with no income.

He weighed 4.5 stone when body found, eight months after benefits were stopped.

Govt tried to conceal murder.

In response to three people’s death this is what we get.

Give me strength. They even asked if ID cards would stop drownings??

In the UK (and it looks pretty similar across the western world) governments swing between a right wing version telling you to go fuck yourself and a centre right version telling you that they have no choice but to keep telling you to go fuck yourself because anything else is unrealistic

Some of these extras you can pay for on flights now are ridiculous. I'm adding this one and hoping they lose my case because that 900 quid would be a sweet exchange for some old clothes and toiletries.

Now, the last hospital in northern Gaza is destroyed, babies are freezing to death & the WHO Director-General narrowly survived an attack in Yemen.

Human sacrifice is legitimised by UK govts and practiced in every town (see linked article).

Thousands sacrificed to the gods of free markets, privatisations, austerity, fiscal rules, mustn't tax the rich.

None of it delivers prosperity.

Must change politics.

Bluesky is supposed to be a safe place, so I'm instantly blocking anyone who comes out with that bullshit that Bob Dylan can't sing. It's not just that I'm an easily offended fanboy, but I just know anyone with such an asinine take is unlikely to ever say anything else of interest.
