Pinning the communication failure on Biden and his age is pure cope, a way to avoid having to grapple with the utter wreckage of our information environment more broadly. The fact is, the system is set up to make it effectively impossible to convey positive news about Dems to voters. Period.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

Think back over all the things the U.S. media has completely and utterly messed up in the 21st century. - Bush stealing the election. 9/11. The war in Iraq. The Tea Party. The Clinton/Trump election.

The US political press shit the bed in every one of these incredibly significant chapters.

The New York Times knows crime is not “out of control” in major U.S. cities — in fact, crime is way down from past years and decades — but NYT amplifies JD Vance’s lie without a fact check.
It’s journalism malpractice that helps the fascists.

A reason why we got here is that the media stopped reporting facts and replaced reporting with making everything a reality tv show where contestants fight one another. It turned lying from a liability into an advantage since it would no longer be punished

Whether it’s Fox News’s Brian Kilmeade advocating killing homeless people by “involuntary lethal injection” or MSNBC’s Matthew Dowd bringing up things that Charlie Kirk said, both networks have crossed the boundaries of decency.

Again: the right mounted a huge, billionaire-funded conspiracy to take over US media, degrade US institutions, & erode US rule of law. It happened right out in the open, over decades, & the US media & political establishment not only ignored it but punished all attempts to discuss it.

Elite journalists wriggle & wriggle & try & try but they can not escape the fundamental dilemma: journalism is, by its nature, supposed to be on the side of accuracy, against lies & liars, but the GOP is lies & liars top to bottom. And for reasons of power & access, journalism can not say so.

Every so often, political media will go out of its way to create a story and then externalize it as though it happened naturally at the hands of some other party. "Continued questions" from whom? "Emerging" from where? This is police shooting-speak.
Democrats are trying to move beyond Joe Biden, but continued questions about his cognitive abilities while president are emerging as both a major distraction and a litmus test for party leaders
Latest Revelations About Biden’s Acuity Put Democrats in a Tough Spot
The focus on the former president comes as the party needs to look forward rather than backward to exit the political wilderness.

Opinion | The media was right to spend the summer of 2024 writing about Biden’s frailty, not Trump’s criminality or imbecillic policies. A person who might need a wheelchair has no business being president.

On June 27, 2024, Joe Biden gave the worst debate performance in history. And then it became my job, as a DC reporter, to foster conventional wisdom that a feeble president with sane policies was surely worse than an energetic president with racist, economically incompetent, kleptocratic policies.

You all should know by now I criticize Republicans and Democrats, and have no problem calling out Dem leadership and Biden.

However, the media obsessing over Biden's age while ignoring Trump is literally falling asleep during meetings and is the oldest man to be President is infuriating.
