So, ventilation and filtration (building scale - MERV13 in HVAC; room scale - portable HEPA; personal scale - N95s), right?

PHAC is leading in acknowledging that ALL respiratory illnesses transmit via aerosols. CMOHs & @ipaccanada.bsky.social need to catch up!

Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Fun facts for all the racists blaming immigration (primarily from India) on Canada's measles woes:

-measles vaccination rate in India: 97% (2024)
-rate in Canada: 82.5% (2023)

So if you want to play this game (and I don't), more Indian immigrants would make us LESS vulnerable to measles.

Americans need to stop looking backwards for answers — all of FDR accomplishments are inexorably diminished by his de facto endorsement of Jim Crow white-supremacism.

There's plenty of inspiration to be found among the likes of Mamdani and AOC.

81 years ago, FDR proposed a second Bill of Rights to guarantee every American the right to employment, healthcare, education, housing, and a living income. His words are as relevant now as they were then. Watch.

Imagine an emergency response team that gets deployed to these low vax-coverage pockets to implement a comprehensive #VirusFreeAir package to the schools affected by an outbreak.

You know, because the antivaxxers will persist...

(The concurrent covid drop will also be embarrassing...)
The real risk appears to lie with pockets of low vaccination coverage, regardless of immigration status — whether due to vaccine refusal/hesitancy, delayed immunization, or waning immunity.

There's plenty of money to be made by "not burning stuff."

Also, there's stacks of money to be made "not selling cough syrup."

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.
China’s CO2 emissions have been flat or falling for past 18 months, analysis finds

The difference between most Democrat politicians and most Republican politicians is just an artifact of the voters they represent - what they can get away with, not what they stand for. If they swapped seats, they'd swap personalities.

Primary and make examples - or accept irrelevance.

Democrats were overwhelmingly united on their shutdown demands.

Americans understood that Trump and Republicans were to blame.

Voters made it known last Tuesday that they'll elect leaders who stand up to Trump.

Democrats held the cards — and folded for no reason.

"Pope Leo said Scripture emphasizes the question that will be posed at the end of the world:

'How did you receive the foreigner, did you receive him and welcome him, or not? I think there is a deep reflection that needs to be made about what is happening'..."

Pope Leo calls for ‘deep reflection’ about treatment of detained migrants in U.S.
“Many people who have lived for years and years and years, never causing problems, have been deeply affected by what is going on right now,” Chicago-born pope says.

No wonder employers are so enthusiastically installing HEPA filters and improving ventilation so that their workers —oh wait—no, I’m being told they aren’t doing that, either.
People are actually very interesting in their replies.

Ranges from “I learned that too, but I can’t wear a mask because…”

And the *overwhelmingly common reason* is

“My boss wouldn’t like it.”
