Listen, my children, as here is unfurled
The story of the sandwich that was hurled
On the 10th of August in ‘25;
What a moment to be alive!

As many chose to look down and duck,
One man decided he had to stand up,
And so he wound up, and said ‘What the f___’
And gave his sandwich a freedom chuck.

This has been the thing with the Republican Party since the Clinton Administration at least: they behave like complete maniacs because they are confident that there will be no adverse consequences, because Democrats will act responsibly.
like that's the thing, I don't think they're insincere in being shocked that all of a sudden normie dems are baying for their blood. they thought the bounds of society would stop that from happening.

sorta ties into the same sheltered arguments against a lot of the post-war international order imo

Just finished reading In The Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson (not the guy who used to draw Spider-Man), and it was notable how the Nazi regime just kept stepping up the cartoonish evil of what it was doing as it learned what people were either unable or unwilling to stop them doing.

Are you trying to tell me that Zohran Mandani uses familial honorifics to indicate the nature of his relationship with a particular person rather than strictly describing the degree and nature of their consanguinity? Bad news for his rep with Hapsburgs and Bourbons.
In a bit of a tense moment, one of the La Mega co-hosts presses Mamdani on why he "lied" about his "aunt" having been scared to ride the subway after 9/11 while wearing a hijab.

Mamdani says it was "not a lie" because he refers to his father's cousin as his "aunt."

Yes, of course he is mostly targeting black soldiers. But hating and obsessing over beards has so many other racist implications - antisemitic, islamophobic, orientalist. I strongly suspect he has at least some of all of those in the mix.

What would have made you think that? Did you get into this movement somehow hearing about what right wing men think they are but without ever meeting any?

Is there any act that the Trump administration can take that the New York Times is willing to just call illegal, without these wishy-washy qualifiers?

"Death Squads Round Up Democratic Mayors: Legal Experts Claim Executions on City Hall Steps Could Run Afoul of Federalism Concerns"
Breaking News: The U.S. military accepted a private donation of $130 million to help pay troops during the shutdown. The move is highly unusual and a potential violation of federal law.
Trump to Use $130 Million Donation to Help Pay Troops
It is not clear how far the gift will go toward covering the salaries of the nation’s 1.3 million troops.

An accurate thing to call this would be a "high seas murder operation." It is unquestionably the unlawful killing of another with malice aforethought. I wonder why the New York Times doesn't call it that?
Did the New York Times have an editorial meeting where they said something like “these are trustworthy people, we should take their word, put it headlines, that’s good journalism.”

Did they go so far as to say “we should help the Trump administration sell this action”?

Or do they just sorta do it?

To be fair, based on what we have seen of him to date, it seems like Kash Patel's mind is easily boggled.

BBC radio story just referred to the Catholic Church and the Church of England as "the two wings of Christianity." Those are the two, huh? The English are something else.

I am glad they didn't kill anybody, but doing so much affirmative action for incompetent white people in the name of defeating woke that they accidentally blow up the California Highway Patrol would be a deeply unsurprising outcome of this administration.
An artillery shell detonated prematurely during a U.S. Marine Corps ceremony in California over the weekend, sending shrapnel toward officers who were part of VP Vance’s protective detail for the live-fire exercise, the California Highway Patrol said.

It's meaningful that this is Santos. He has no friends. He has no power. He has no influence. This isn't the kind of corruption where Trump gets money or favors. This is a message: no matter how big an asshole you are or how much everyone hates you, the law does not bind you if you are a Republican.
I think at this point it’s fair to say that we’re no longer under the rule of law.

The bane of the contemporary world is men who became unimaginably rich by being good at one thing - or, more often, just being lucky - and then become convinced that financial success is proof positive that they are transformational geniuses who understand everything better than anyone.

I would never blame someone for being, say, a Ravens fan, as horrible as the Ravens are, because you can't help where you are from. But Islanders, or Yankees, or Cubs? Man, there was another option right there.

Headline writers: please stop granting the Trump administration's bullshit premises. They are not doing this for a rounding error's worth of savings. The way they have gone about it makes it very clear that they don't care at all about savings.

There is no way to get into the head of guys like this, so it will remain a mystery, but does he really believe that these protests are full of people who are being paid off in some secret way? Or is he just lying?
Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."
