I've been searching for this bit of 90s Canadiana for decades. Shirts with the sketch from this ad were actually printed and given away, yet it had become impossible to find. A friend managed to locate it in an ad comp video, and I'm overjoyed to be able to isolate and present it in all its glory.

Traditionally, wrestlers have been liars & con-men motivated by money, not art. We make peace with that in our own ways, but transposing their metrics for success ("Made a lot of money in the AWA") onto our experience of their work at the cost of actually enjoying it is horseshoe theory markdom.
Wrestling is this insane form of entertainment where every subjective opinion is met with "BUT HOW MUCH MONEY DID THEY MAKE?" van Gogh, horrible painter when he was alive, didn't draw a dime. Now that he's dead and his art is worth tons, best painter ever.

Vancouver: we're out of town for the weekend but many friends and neighbours (including a former Hootsuite employee who quit over their first cancelled ICE contract!) are going to this on Friday. Pissed about a major Vancouver employer collaborating with and profiting from US fascism? Let 'em know.
Join Democracy Rising in a protest against Hootsuite's involvement with #ice. Hootsuite is a #vancouver tech company providing social media services. Their customers include the Department of Homeland Security and ICE.

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

After careful consideration, the G1 will be returning to a four block format in 2026.
We all know about the dreaded black and white NJPW logo for when there’s bad news, so I made another logo to share when there’s not great news, like the website is down or New Japan World’s price is going up

The "it's a mercenary insurgency" cope is instructive. Sure, they can't admit that soccer moms and retirees are outflanking them, but moreover fascists need to believe that everyone else's soul is as buyable as theirs, and that no one could ever be motivated by anything other than money and hate.

What looked like a low stakes, ad hoc Collision on paper ended up being a lot of fun to watch and talk about. A technical main, Andrade turning up the heat, and SFW bear-on-twink brutality which has to be seen to be believed.

Talking Collision with Kate right after the show!
Join me and @contrasoma.bsky.social tonight on @postwrestling.com for Collision Course, just after 10 p.m. EST.

Last weekend's show was my first look at Soberano Jr since his injury and he still has it all, man. Smooth work, charisma off the charts, shows ass but stays impossibly cool. I know Dorada is positioned as the future of the promotion (and I agree!), but Soberano's rise has been phenomenal.

Thekla and everyone around her using "toxic" as though it's a noun instead of an adjective is going to give me an aneurysm.

I see very little downside in the presumptive NJPW departures for the company save Kidd, but that seemed like an inevitability. I'd like to see Newman take Finlay down first; great chemistry there. EVIL disappearing from sight without any blowoff or rub given is so on-brand for HoT as to be poetic.

Someone needs to book these two for the next stateside Dragongate show.

Much to my chagrin, this didn't feature a listing for my very rare truck decal of Snoopy pissing on Calvin pissing on a Chevy logo.

More Moderate Damage than Maximum Carnage but some tea leaves to be read re new arrivals and departures.

The first time I bought a bag of these the dude at the counter said that he liked them but they didn't really taste like Sasquatch to him.

Dodgers gonna Dodger, TNA gonna TNA.

Weird. Looking up jazz piano covers of Radiohead is now enough to trigger wellness checks by Apple Music's fantastically calibrated algorithms.

Just before Tana disappears into smoke at the end of the retirement ceremony (about 1:41:00 on the NJPW World vid), you can see him hobble for the first and only time in the entirety of WK. This clip from today puts the entire performance into even sharper relief. "Burn All My Energy" indeed.

More than the return of the V4, it was Yuto's promo that stole NYD for me. Still not a fan of the tag match not getting a spot at the Dome, but he sure as hell wouldn't have been able to get that mic time there.

Had a blast talking with @karensensei.bsky.social about Tanahashi's note perfect emotional sendoff, New Japan sticking the landing on Wolf and Tsuji, and the rest of Wrestle Kingdom.

A flawless execution of Tanahashi's retirement, entirely befitting his body of work, influence, and legacy.

Hell yes. Big, broad, hard hitting, no bullshit IWGP Heavyweight main event style.

Okay, Wolf delivered. Wasn't perfect, but was very good, and much better than I expected/worried based on his appearances to date. Crowd was fully into him. After nearly a year of speculation, we can say that they have something real in him.

Jake Lee is back to "awkwardly tall weirdo with no charisma" mode, and trust me, I know something about that.

Sad to report that NJPW is now an Entrances Promotion.
