HAPPY PRIDE 🏳️‍🌈

Under Trump, research using terms like “Trans,” “LGBTQ,” & “Gender identity” is being defunded. These terms reflect real people who deserve science that includes them.

Stand with us to protect LGBTQ+ science from political erasure.

Absolutely horrible. I may not live there anymore but I'm a Californian at heart. I voted for Newsome to avoid this. I hope my CA friends and family, especially the many scientists I know, will stand up to this disgrace.

I looked through some of the public comments and was distressed (but not surprised) by the amount of anti-vax comments. There was so much pseudo-science in these comments so please comment and say that COVID vaccines are good for us!
The comment period for this ends in 3 DAYS. Please leave a comment telling them EVERYONE should be able to get covid boosters.

Jay is the lead author on a fascinating paper I was involved in, about how male mimicry by female hummingbirds provides the first example of a type of signaling system that we predicted from theoretical principles over a decade ago.

This is infuriating.

And I believe it's due to anti-trans bias.
My NSF PRFB on the genetics of female polymorphism in hummingbirds was terminated yesterday.

I don't have much to say, I'm just sad. We've discovered so much, and could have gone so much further.

If anyone else is in the same boat, esp postdocs, please reach out, it would be good to connect.

Thousands of people showed up in ABQ today to fight against fascism. There were some many great speakers but the highlight of the event for me was chanting "Sí se puede" alongside Dolores Huerta.

Here's what I said if you need a script:

"Hello, my name is X, I am a constituent living in Y County. I am calling to urge Senator Z to VOTE NO on cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Cooperating with Republicans will not avoid a shutdown. We are already in the middle of an illegal...
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.
