Justice Sam Alito was v disturbed yesterday by the mere possibility that judges might be using the federal compassionate release statute to *checks notes* grant incarcerated people's requests for compassionate release

Sam Alito Very Concerned About the Possibility of People Not Being In Prison For As Long As Possible
Interesting to which issues prompt judges to get worked up about other judges deciding cases in line with their personal ideological agendas.

Tremane Wood is alive in spite of the Supreme Court, which, this morning, rejected his request to block Oklahoma from executing him at 10am as punishment for a murder he did not commit

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt commuted the sentence to life in prison at 9:59

Oklahoma Didn’t Kill Tremane Wood, No Thanks to the Supreme Court
The justices used to struggle with the constitutionality of the death penalty. Now, they rubber-stamp it.

Republicans own the state government. They passed this.

This is disgusting.

NEW: As health insurance bills rise, Republicans are still seeking an Obamacare alternative

There is no legislative product yet.

No consensus in the party about a plan.

But top GOP lawmakers and policy figures on Capitol Hill have begun discussing concepts.

I've been working on this for awhile, and now it's finally out in the world — our new series explores the nuances of detransitioning in America right now.

I spoke with two detransitioners who feel harmed by the Trump administration. Their stories can teach us a lot. I hope you'll read them.
Detransition is key to politicians’ anti-trans agenda. But what is it really like?
The 19th spoke with two detransitioners who feel harmed and used by the Trump administration, which has positioned itself as a protector of those who detransition.

We seriously have Republicans talking about going back to the “good old days” of high-risk pools, which just meant that people with preexisting conditions like cancer couldn’t get health insurance.
Tom Emmer: "You're gonna have to create high risk pools again. Just go back where Minnesota was before the ACA."

Amazing reporting from @chalkbeat.org: Christian Nationalist law firm Alliance Defending Freedom was involved in setting up Colorado's first "Christian public school" specifically so it could get another case to the Supreme Court over whether public money can fund religious schools
After the Supreme Court tied on religious charters, Alliance Defending Freedom asked a Colorado school district lawyer to initiate a "parallel case," according to emails obtained by Chalkbeat. A self-described Christian public school opened a few months later. www.chalkbeat.org/colorado/202...

An interesting tidbit in the joint status report filed in the Broadview ICE facility case today:

ICE says video from inside the facility "between October 19, 2025, and October 31, 2025, has been irretrievably destroyed" and can't be produced in discovery.
