"everything's better if it's Gay" is fine if you're like, 14 and exploring queer media all the time but on a thematic level it just doesn't hold up once you're a grown-up. so much of gothic fiction is about the horrors of positionality and heteropatriarchy is an inextricable part of that!
also idk. sometimes heterosexuality is in fact important to the narrative (like in this case how much it’s a man controlling a woman and playing on her grief and the gender dynamics involved). that doesn’t mean you can’t make an m/m version, but it does mean don’t be a misogynist about it.

this was probably the single biggest independent revelation I've ever had in any form of discourse- that the reason the way people talk about cishet women pisses me off so bad isn't because Won't Someone Consider the Straights!?, it's because it's often misogyny all the way down in a rainbow mask
