Take a moment and think about the names that have been on your mind this year. What name feels new, or has changed, or somehow matters more? Like Barack in 2007, or Siri in 2011, or Karen in 2019? What's the 2025 Name of the Year? Please share your ideas (and this post, if you're inclined!)
What Name Captures the Spirit of 2025?
The right name can be a time capsule, conjuring a moment, a place, a turning point, even a feeling. What's your choice for the 2025 Name of the Year?

The Prince Hall Masonic Lodge bought a parcel in Arlington, MA, that was used as a cemetery. It fell into disuse and was forgotten until the 1980's. It has now been restored and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

I've wondered if a pivot to AI was to keep the market for GPUs before crypto and NFTs waned (and at that NFTs a way to shore up crypto) or if crypto was hyped because AI needed the volume but wasn't ready to support it
So does this mean the AI bubble and the crypto bubble are linked or…

Guys we need to have a serious intellectual debate here.

is THE MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK (Jon Stone and Michael Smollin, 1971) horror?

Please defend your answer.

If you've got a Republican representing you, call them and tell them you blame them, and their party, for the shutdown.

"Sadly, I don't see this ending soon, unless enough Democrats realize this is hurting them politically, so they basically overrule Schumer”

If distributing SNAP funds is not as easy as hitting a button on a computer, the government ought to fix that & follow the law.

We deserve a government run with functional technology.

Reminder to vote! Local elections affect schools, infrastructure, housing and whether your town is a garbage place or not. Please be nice to your poll workers, it's a long day for them. Tip your pole workers because sex work is work. But don't tip your poll worker cuz they can't take money. #vote

If you're one of my New York City friends who's watched my election blog posts about downticket races in Minneapolis & St. Paul go by and muttered "I wish someone did that here," BEHOLD, SOMEONE IS DOING THAT FOR NYC!
HEY NYC PEOPLE here's some useful information on judicial races, and ballot initiatives from my friend @harihareswara.net. Like my blog on MSP, she offers endorsements, but pulls together info so it's useful even if you disagree with her:

Two things can be true at once:

-Netanyahu's administration is fucking evil
-Blaming every bad thing in politics on Israel and AIPAC whether it relates or not is textbook antisemitism

Not acknowledging (2) makes it harder to make the (very valid!) argument for (1).
