Die My Love was challenging. People were walking out. I can’t think of another portrayal of the first few months after birth that was that authentic. Beautiful and harrowing.

I think the lesson is Trump knows he can survive the base learning that he did horrible moral things, but he can’t survive if he’s no longer seen as in control of the GOP.
Trump told Republicans in Congress to vote for the Epstein files bill yesterday. Whatever meaning we want to attach to all but one House Republican voting for it (and its likely passage thru the Senate by unanimous consent), this is not Republicans defying Trump. They're literally following orders.

Interesting idea — use a zoned licensing system to improve app service and conditions for delivery workers.
The private waste carting industry was once too big, too complex, and impossible to rein in. But once the City Council passed the Commercial Waste Zones Law, enforcement and accountability became possible.

What if this model was applied to delivery apps?
Delivery App Regulation Should Learn from Commercial Carting Reform - Streetsblog New York City
New York City's patchwork regulation of delivery apps fails to address the industry's many problems, from traffic safety to worker rights.

WOW. Yesterday I saw the Bill Douglas Trilogy at Metrograph and I was blown away. Douglas, the writer-director, made three autobiographical films in the 1970s about his very early years in a Scottish mining village. Really unbelievable filmmaking; see them if you can! www.youtube.com/watch?v=plsK...

A lot of people ultimately respect integrity and commitment to the preservation of history
Now that federal employees are back to work, I’ve heard from my friends & former colleagues at the Eisenhower Presidential Library. They tell me their general delivery email & voicemail inboxes are full of messages supporting me & demanding my reinstatement. That is very humbling and gratifying.

When I was writing my dissertation I had the same question about shorthand in the 1930s. I also wonder about linotype operators in the 70s.
Technical question: around 1912, how many Americans would have known or been able to transcribe Morse Code? How saturated was that knowledge — or, where would I look to get some sense of that? Any ideas very appreciated! I haven’t dug into it yet…

Part of this week’s newsletter was inspired by the post below. Was there a way to show the distance between normal Americans and the super wealthy?
