Was there any coverage of the recent record warmth in both the Arctic and Antarctic? Multiple global datasets now confirm these records, and I think it's really quite striking.

Here's some very quick plots showing NOAAGlobalTempv6 data from October too. And see my earlier posts.

Crazy mid-November snow melt episode in the Pyrenees! ❄️🔥
Tourmalet: 2115 m asl 🏔️

This foreshadows what we will soon experience:
Winter heat waves so strong that they could damage the entire snowpack! 😱📈

Sehr zurückhaltender Post, angesichts der Zahlen:
Szenario: 90% Rückgang wilde Bestäuber (2017-2030)
24 Mrd € Verluste
4% der gesamten landwirtschaftlichen Erzeugnisse, 13%% Gemüse, Obst, Ölsaaten
Ernteausfälle + steigende Lebensmittelpreise wären die Folge.

Wir brauchen die Natur.
Nicht umgekehrt
Das #Insektensterben hat auch massive wirtschaftliche Folgen. Simulation der #UniHohenheim zeigt: Wenn die Wildbestäuber bis 2030 verschwänden, hätte das Konsequenzen für Landwirtschaft, Erträge, Preise, Handel & #Ernährungssicherheit.

How much carbon budget do we have left if we want to stay below 1.5˚C?

Just 2 more years at current rates. It is essentially impossible to avoid global temperature rise exceeding 1.5˚C.

Whilst its easy to get used to scary graphs, this one made me pause! The 2025 State of the Cryosphere report published yesterday has this one overlaying observations of #AMOC slowdown against model predictions.

The report states that “AMOC shutdown appears all but inevitable”

As if it wasn't 'bad enough' already, climate models underestimate future Ocean Heat Uptake, because them get present-day Antarctic sea-ice wrong.

One more reason why climate change will be worse than models project..

According to UNEP's latest #EmissionsGap Report, accelerated adoption of renewable energy and falling costs mean we have the tools to cut emissions now: www.unep.org/news-and-sto...

Planetary boundaries gain global traction.

The Planetary Health Check shows 7 of 9 boundaries breached, but action is growing across governments, cities, business and finance. Co-authors Albert Norström and Tiina Häyhä highlight emerging practices.

I think most people think this is not much; judging from the pictures. Unless you realize that sweetwater is only ~3% of the global water and most of this is/was in glaciers or not available to us. It is really stupid that we let this happen, despite having all the education and research.
I saw today the dramatic effects of global heating up close. This is the Bonhus glacier in SW Norway, the photo on the left is from 1890. Like all glaciers in Norway it is shrinking rapidly.

I was shocked when I first saw these results from standard climate models used in IPCC reports: for high emissions, the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC shuts down in all 9 models that ran past 2100, and is well on the way to shutdown by 2100.
Our paper on that is out today.🧵

The subject of my chapter in this great book? Rewilding is NOT land abandonment.

Having spent over 16 years rewilding a West Cork farm, I know very well that it requires a lot of hands-on input undoing human damage, eg eradicating invasive plants.

Rewilding needs people, and a lot of LOVE.
They ought to read your chapter in Great Misconceptions Eoghan...

Economy IS ENTIRELY dependent on ecology.

Focusing on the economy REQUIRES to first and fully focus on ecology.

The human economy on Venus is zero.

Not because we can’t get there but because none of our bodies or machines can even do anything there.

We are turning our own planet into Venus.
