We knew the NSF letter about NCAR would come. I think this is an occasion that will require great coordination and strategical thinking. UCAR should respond as a block, coordinating a response across universities (especially in the South, and large public universities that use NCAR data a lot)

I would strongly encourage those who value the scientific & societal legacies of NCAR to offer feedback by March 13. I would expect, under present circumstances, perspectives from industry partners will be especially critical, though everyone's voice is of course important.

The federal govt may be burning global cooperation on climate science to the ground, but we can and are pushing back where we can. We have more than 70 US scientists currently on IPCC reports, with more to be selected this month for CDR methods report. The USAA-IPCC coalition is up for this fight.
The US has some of the world’s best climate scientists (and more of them than anywhere else) & has contributed disproportionately to understanding the climate system. It’s idiotic for the US to withdraw from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change & the IPCC but it’s on brand for this regime.

As we look ahead to the new year, we need to figure out ways to tell the story of the damage Trump caused so we can hold him accountable.

NCAR’s Mesa Lab is literally a science castle dedicated to understanding our planet in an open and collaborative way, and leading the world in that effort. We cannot let this happen.

The beautiful idea of NCAR, to improve understanding of our planet through a cooperative, shared and open intellectual team effort, is literally what has got me out of bed every morning for nearly two decades. This cannot, CANNOT be allowed to happen.

A deeply dangerous — and blatantly retaliatory action against Colorado — by the Trump administration.

NCAR is one of the most renowned scientific facilities in the WORLD — where scientists perform cutting-edge research everyday.

We will fight this reckless directive with every legal tool we have.

Mr. Bob is a true local hero of street safety, and it is so infuriating that he was attacked in this latest instance of senseless car violence. I really hope he makes a full recovery.
Many people were concerned when Robert Clear didn't show up for AM drop-off at Emerson Elementary on Tuesday. As it turned out, he had been just blocks away when police say a driver intentionally struck him after running down two other people in the neighborhood.
After bike collision, Berkeley school rallies around 'Mr. Bob'
"He's always here," said Rachel Terp, Emerson PTA president. "I never saw him miss a day."

I'm happy to share a paper in Science Advances that makes the case for a weak land carbon sink, drawing upon JPL and Chloris biomass time series. To close the budget with a net land sink of 0.8 Pg C/y from 2000-2019, we propose increases in the ocean sink and decreases in fossil fuel emissions.

Really excited to see the flat10MIP paper out! Since the preprint, we've added this new figure, showing the ESM ensemble of warming—normalized by the warming at year 100, to remove the uncertainty due to differing TCRE across models—versus cumulative CO2 emissions in the esm-flat10-cdr experiment.
