Earlier this year, ProPublica found that the sepsis rate in second-trimester pregnancy loss hospitalizations increased by more than 50% under Texas’ abortion ban.

Here’s how we did our analysis.

Texas Won’t Study How Its Abortion Ban Impacts Women, So We Did
Since Texas banned abortion, no one has studied the statewide effects on pregnant women experiencing complications. Here’s how we sifted through data on millions of pregnancy hospitalizations and anal...

Patriotism isn't about building walls, punishing immigrants, cutting taxes for the rich, attacking the press, or dividing us by race & faith.

True patriots don't pander to divisiveness or hate. They work to confirm the "WE" in "We the People of the United States."

Absolutely unacceptable that we’re expected to live through this historical era with no film version of the musical “Ragtime.”

Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
A hero and a coward are meeting in the Oval Office today.

And when the meeting is over, the hero will return home to Ukraine.

I would go farther, and say it’s like paying a robot to make love to your girlfriend for you.

I don’t want to use AI because I ENJOY WRITING. If I didn’t enjoy it there are much, much easier ways to make a living.
Using AI to produce writing or art is like asking someone at the gym to lift weights for you.

The effort is the point.

Telling Ryan which Girl Scout cookies we should get. Obviously a box each of the big three. None of those Taffyfuls or I-Can-Do-It’s or the unflavored one with Gandalf on it.

Earlier this week, Piggy stared death in the face, extended her little mitten, & went BAP BAP BAP BAP BAP. How strange to wake with my dearest friend purring in my arms after so many hours at the vet processing the big goodbye. Now every time I glimpse her, a miracle: my little love is still here.

It all feels like a family with a genuinely abusive family member choosing to just carry on with the holiday traditions, hoping to create normalcy through sheer will and denial.

You might not know the real L.A. personally, but know this: its people are supporting each other through extreme devastation with courage and cooperation. I am heartbroken for them. (3/3)

I've been checking in w/loved ones and they are uniformly brave and loving in their responses, no matter how much they have already lost or how close the danger looms for them. One even offered to help MY family get their affairs sorted, as if he didn't have enough on his own plate. (2/3)

What's frequently overlooked about my hometown is the vast generosity of its residents. You might know L.A. county as the nexus of a cutthroat entertainment industry & host to a few ultra-rich celebrities w/ extra homes elsewhere, but about 9.7 million perfectly ordinary people call it home. 1/3
