I always pay attention to what stories People Magazine and other consumer media outlets cover. That's how you can tell that something has broken through the usual political and news bubbles. This horrific Chicago story has broken through. people.com/ice-agents-o...

Overnight on Tuesday, Sept. 30, federal agents from different agencies raided an apartment building on the South Side of Chicago, pulling men, women and children — some of them allegedly naked — from ...

“These are scenes I was not expecting to see in the US. You have detentions in Germany, but …they’re certainly not carried out by people who are wearing masks. There’s no comparison to that in Germany”

Scenes from immigration court in New York’s Federal Plaza.
Till Eckert spent two weeks reporting from the twelfth-floor hallways, where ICE agents have had charged encounters with immigrants and reporters.

I've covered race for two decades. I knew the 2nd Trump Admin would be dangerous for civil rights. Yet the collapse of the federal civil rights architecture and national will to address racial inequality and work on integration is stunning. Here's my latest. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/m...

I interviewed Pittsfield native Deirdre “Didi” O’Connell about her Emmy nomination for her fierce, emotionally harrowing turn in “The Penguin.” It’s a role that’s thrust the beloved O’Connell into the spotlight at age 72 after long and respected career on stage & screen. #EmmyAwards #Emmys2025

You can write this only if, by virtue of your income, identity, or both, you are utterly removed from the consequences of politics. To pretend that the racist, misogynistic, anti-gay vileness that Kirk spent his life spreading is secondary to the fact that he spread it "the right way" is appalling.

It seems that people online are collectively providing a pretty clear picture of the killer's very specific personality/ideology/online type, and people in the press are just baffled by the references (I say as someone who is baffled by the references).

He didn't bridge disagreements. What he did with "Prove Me Wrong" was the debate equivalent of creating a wrestling persona--watch me take on, and take down, all comers! Nothing he did suggests that he was honestly open to persuasion by others or to tempering his numerous ugly, bigoted stances. >

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

I just left the Everglades Immigrant Interment Camp. No, I’m not using their ridiculous name. It was a very tough to witness humans in those cages. Every Floridian should be ashamed that our taxpayer money is being used for this.

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government.

No one has heard from you in 119 days.

As vigil, I’m posting a photo or video of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.

Heartbroken by the news of playwright Richard Greenberg’s death. For the past several years we’ve been deep in collaboration on his gorgeous adaptation of Holiday, Philip Barry’s great American play—premiering at the Goodman this February. A profound loss mid-process.

Trump has pardoned multiple convicted fraudsters — including a former GOP Congressman and two reality TV stars.

He's also dropped or halted 100+ enforcement actions against corporate offenders — including 34 companies that funded his inauguration.

Is this being "tough on crime"?
