I am begging you to keep using your brain for tasks rather than genAI.

Thinking and doing are good for you. You don't want atrophy of muscles, so why would you want the brain equivalent?

Just finished Coffin Moon by @keithrosson.bsky.social and it was even better than I expected. This will be a horror-comfort re-read/re-listen for me, like Salem’s Lot and IT have been for years.
Coffin Moon really is excellent.🖤

I’m going to get The Twisted Ones next. 😊
Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.

Hey! I finally got to speak to @joe-hill.bsky.social. We talked dragons, deadly deals, decades of friendship, and the role of a damn good spouse in a creative life.

It was a blast. KING SORROW is a masterpiece.

I used to wonder what purpose my art had in the world and doubt my own usefulness. It is so clear now that my purpose, and everyone's when they create art, is fundamentally to keep people thinking and prevent the notion that there is only One Way of Being. There is NOT. There is a plurality, always.

still thinking about this article today. so many societal ills are caused by people white-washing what actually happens. it's awful to see games do it too.

can't wait for cozy domestic violence simulator or cozy kkk simulator

ICYMI, I’m writing a quarterly column on collections of weird fiction. So far we’ve got an intro, one on Steve Rasnic Tem, Ananda Lima, and Christi Nogle, and another on John Langan, Rebecca Campbell, and B. Catling. There’s a lot of weird theorizing and words like “apophatic” and “genric”.

If you've updated to Windows 11 recently, you're probably on version 25H2.

There's a new setting in Settings: Privacy & Security.

Scroll aaaaaaaalll the way to the bottom and you'll see "Text and Image Generation."

TURN IT OFF.
