I am seeking researchers! I have two open positions: 1) computational neuroscience, neuromorphic computing, and brain-inspired machine learning; and 2) an expert slice patch-clamper to investigate an exciting new mouse model of neurodevelopmental brain disorder. I keep experimenting with the Orion Nebula. This time with the Meade LX600 and a Canon Rebel EOS T3i with light pollution filter and some minimum post-processing. Not bad, given that it was actually quite a cloudy night...

An important lesson can be learned here: when many young scientists leave a lab in a short span of time and seemingly unexpectedly, it is worth taking a closer look. The reasons could differ from those of the university administration or PIs themselves.

probably my last astro-image for 2023: a wide field shot of the Milky Way taken at Paranal (on the platform, right next to UT1). Traveling light, I only had a tripod, a DSLR with a 15mm lens, so the image is a stack of 78 exp. at 16s each. #astrophotography #🔭📷

With the amazing images coming back from Juno's flyby of Io, I finally took a stab at processing some JunoCam images. This image shows Io's north polar region from 2839km distance.

🐾 The Fossil Footprint Nebula in Perseus ✨

To say this nebula is dim af is an understatement, it’s still a miracle to me that I can make images of space like this as an amateur with a small telescope. (That miracle is modern imaging sensors and supercomputers in the home.) 🔭🧪#astrophotography

For the third year in a row I successfully completed the full moons project, but 2023 has been a special year, with thirteen full moons and a partial eclipse, which makes this a special achievement of mine I’m pretty proud of.

A couple of days ago I was out imaging IC434, The Horsehead Nebula, with an Ha filter and managed to catch some of the Geminids meteor shower.

Actually my mount stopped tracking for no reason near the end of this 10 min exposure. Sometimes mistakes make for the most interesting artistic outcomes. 🔭
