I keep experimenting with the Orion Nebula. This time with the Meade LX600 and a Canon Rebel EOS T3i with light pollution filter and some minimum post-processing. Not bad, given that it was actually quite a cloudy night...

A single exposure of the full moon rising behind the southern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Two groups of bridge climbers can just be seen. Taken with a Pentax K-5 DSLR, Astrotech ED65 refractor & Televue 2x Powermate . Narrowband image of the many nebulae in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Taken with a ZWO 2600mc astrocamera, Samyang 135mm telephoto lens with an Antlia dual-band filter. 2 panel mosaic of the Scorpius Milky Way. Several nebulae and clusters can be seen, along with a number of dark patches of obscuring dust. Taken with a modified Pentax K-5iis DSLR and a Samyang 135mm lens. A narrowband image of the Gabriela Mistral Nebula and the Gem Cluster, both in the constellation of Carina. A narrowband image taken with a ZWO 2600mc, through a Skywatcher 190mm Mak-Newt with an Antlia dual-band filter.

probably my last astro-image for 2023: a wide field shot of the Milky Way taken at Paranal (on the platform, right next to UT1). Traveling light, I only had a tripod, a DSLR with a 15mm lens, so the image is a stack of 78 exp. at 16s each. #astrophotography #🔭📷

🐾 The Fossil Footprint Nebula in Perseus ✨

To say this nebula is dim af is an understatement, it’s still a miracle to me that I can make images of space like this as an amateur with a small telescope. (That miracle is modern imaging sensors and supercomputers in the home.) 🔭🧪#astrophotography
A false color space nebula in reds, oranges and cyans. It’s shaped roughly like a dinosaur footprint. There’s a bright center with complex nebulosities.

For the third year in a row I successfully completed the full moons project, but 2023 has been a special year, with thirteen full moons and a partial eclipse, which makes this a special achievement of mine I’m pretty proud of.

A partial view of the Perseus molecular cloud, along with the spectacular nebula NGC1333 (center-top of the image). This image was captured with a color camera (without filters) and a 400mm F/D5.6 refractor (21h35 cumulated exposure time).

In this dense field or view, many interesting objects are visible. First of all, light-brown nebulosities are covering a large part of the picture, and hiding the stars behind : those are part of a huge cloud of dust and gas, the Perseus molecular cloud. In the center-top of the image, a spectacular nebula is glowing in white among the light-brown nebulosities : the NGC1333 nebula. Several smaller nebulae are visible in the picture.

A couple of days ago I was out imaging IC434, The Horsehead Nebula, with an Ha filter and managed to catch some of the Geminids meteor shower.

Actually my mount stopped tracking for no reason near the end of this 10 min exposure. Sometimes mistakes make for the most interesting artistic outcomes. 🔭
