Why is there a ceiling for data analyst career ladders?

In software engineering there is a concept of a “staff+ “ role that is still an independent contributor, but isn’t on the people management track.

Data Engineering and to an extent analytics engineering have this type of role.

“Flexibility without fragmentation”

In addition to some solid alteration, it’s also a great explanation of how to build a data team and how your system can and should scale.

@colton.boo and Dennis Hume have an awesome new ebook on this topic, check it out!

Populist Dems won. Moderate Dems won. We won in blue states. We won in purple states.

Maybe the take is that (a) people think Trump is out of control; and (b) people like Dems when we're taking a stand and fighting for what we believe in - as we have been for the last month.

Learn English the Hard Way.

Software Engineers have had to learn to write code and understand the fundamental architectures despite extensive frameworks that obfuscated those core principles for decades. And those engineers create beautiful and effective software.

I feel like I say this every year but I really need people to hear it. Halloween is the best American holiday. Just kids outside welcomed into their world, marching around together, showing off their costumes to the elderly, parents meeting parents, neighbors catching up with neighbors.

I made a Slackbot that uses a LLM-backed knowledge search to make our sales engineers’ lives easier, and now our sales reps can ask it questions and SEs respond with a “good bot” or a “clanker” emoji reaction

So when the robots come to purge us all, you’re welcome

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.
