Abuse isnʼt the result of sin; itʼs the result of omnipotence – Baptist News Global
What if power abuses are ultimately theological? Clergy abuse is so common, it has become a cliche. The new archbishop of Canterbury was accused of colluding with an abusive priest. In December, a fed...

Russ Vought is Southern Baptist? Figures. This is the bizarro death-dealing world of white evangelicals. They send missionaries around the world to "save" people while supporting a regime whose cruel agenda kills those people.

Of course, Russ Vought's church (which I will not name) sends out dozens of missionaries around the world, to countries his policies have actively harmed, whose people his agenda has literally killed.
This is the strange parallel world of white evangelicalism. You can read more in my book.
When I got divorced—which resulted in more happiness for everyone—i was swarmed by all kinds of xtians concerned about my sin.
But this dude can kill half a million people and counting and i doubt his pastor at the church up the road from me has said a word bc he doesn’t want to be political.
There are ~90 million people alive today because of USAID. Russ Vought illegally shut it down and now is spending the money on himself. These are deeply evil people. www.reuters.com/world/us/whi...

"Even in Russia, they don’t treat children like this."
For more on how conditions at Dilley are affecting children, read my latest for @nbcnews.com
I interviewed a family of Russian asylum seekers who’ve been held more than four months at the Dilley detention center in Texas.

As we spoke over Zoom this week, their daughter Kamilla was one day shy of turning 12. I asked her what she wanted for her birthday.

She replied: “To get out of here.”

And this critical point: "These indefinite detentions are in civil proceedings, not criminal... It’s as if we’re throwing people into overcrowded jails for the legal equivalent of failing to pay a credit-card bill or losing a lawsuit — immigration detention as the new debtors’ prison."
Two judges from the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit have issued a ruling that, if allowed to stand, could result in the indefinite detention of millions of immigrants in inhumane, overcrowded facilities scattered across the United States. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/12/o...

Again & again, we've seen how evangelicals seem to crave the affirmation of celebrities to legitimize their theology. @rickpidcock.bsky.social asks why.

Why are evangelicals so insecure that they incessantly seek validation from celebrities? Does their theology produce the insecurity?
For today's piece, I discuss how some influencers are claiming Kid Rock's performance was an artistic spiritual journey from topless dancers to Jesus, and why evangelicals are so obsessed with celebrities legitimizing their theology on the world stage.

Long before "Spotlight" & long before the #ChurchToo movement, Ray Mouton was working to expose the widespread sexual abuse of children in the Catholic Church. He was a "voice in the wilderness" & it cost him near-everything.

He died last week. May he RIP.

In more than 1600 cases, "more than 300 federal judges, including appointees of every president since Ronald Reagan, have now rebuffed the administration’s 6-month-old effort to expand its so-called 'mandatory detention' policy."

A helpful 🧵for understanding what's happening with immigration law. ⬇️
Judges have mostly rejected the government’s attempt to detain anyone who is black or brown. As of early January (the last time anyone had time to count) 300 judges in 1000s of decisions rejected the government’s arguments. Less than a dozen permit it.
