Nailed it.
My doomer-worry about AI is not that the LLMs become omnipotent and take over the world but that the wealthy and powerful use it as a means to consolidate power and marginalize or lay off skilled workers and also everything about our technological and political and social life gets worse

Being in Iceland is literally like living on another planet. So surreal but still beautiful.
On this day in 2018 I was standing on my favourite beach taking photos of the waves. Just love #Iceland so much 🥰🇮🇸

Imagine having the patience to build this whole thing.
The Stuhlhockerbank by Yvonne Fehling and Jennie Peiz effortlessly "melts" chairs and benches into one continuous flow of solid oak.

So I guess the New Yorker is diving in on the AI slop craze now.
Experiments conducted with the A.I. system Claude are producing fascinating results—and raising questions about the nature of selfhood. Gideon Lewis-Kraus reports from inside the company that designed it, Anthropic. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/rOfXjg

For the first time in a while, I'm waking up to gentle rain showers. A weirdly special feeling, if I may say so.

Another example of why the world mythology is never boring.
In a #Norwegian folk tale, a troll-hag, with disconnected head, made repeated attempts to entice chubby little Butterball into her sack with various gifts. But he always got the better of her and escaped with the gift. The illustration is by Theodor Kittelsen.

Thankfully I was able to get my outing done before the heavy rain really kicks in in a few hours. But I welcome it, being our state and needs as much of it as possible, still.

Ocean air lifts the spirit without effort.
Sunlit ripples whisper their small truths.
The sky widens with every passing moment.
Stillness rises from the water’s edge.
Nature teaches in motion and in pause.

It's going to be awful.
Peter Navarro: "The jobs report comes out tomorrow. We have to revise our expectations down significantly for what a monthly job number should look like ... Wall Street has to adjust for the fact that we're deporting millions of illegals out of the job market."

For some reason this genuinely gets under my skin. You'd think we would be long past this shit in the 21st century.
The billionaire family that owns the only currently open bridge between Detroit and Windsor has been trying to rope Trump into their smear campaign against the new Gordie Howe bridge for YEARS. Interesting that he has finally taken the bait! Anyway, @99pi.org did a great episode about it last year.

@cherylrofer.bsky.social @nukestrat.bsky.social Just an interesting thought. Even if we wanted to enter a new nuke arms race, can we even afford to build many more nukes, and maintain them? Especially with Russia, which has used so much of its economic engine to its war effort in Ukriane.
The large nuclear powers are repeating the errors of the Cold War in boosting their arsenals in a dangerous action-reaction dynamic. Not known for intelligent thinking, the Trump regime signals intent to do its part. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/09/u...
