As a language researcher, I’m always curious what's intended/achieved by placing “the science of” in front of a subject area as a modifier. What are users attempting to signal with this phrase? How does it create in/out groups (and to proliferate spicy podcasts)?

English is NOT the official language of the U.S. just because an (illegitimate) executive order said it was. In this policy brief, Kara Viesca an I caution against granting last year's executive order a legitimacy it does not have. Don't comply in advance.

We have to do a better job supporting teachers at work following a miscarriage. For more on the layered pressures they face, see this article in AERA Open, "The Influence of Policies and Professional Expectations on Teachers' Leave Decisions and Well-Being ..."

"We need something more than a clearinghouse to help identify what works in education; we need a similar focus on understanding how and why something works."

Great piece by @uvaehd.bsky.social colleague Jim Soland!

The catch-22 of being told to: (1) Scrub your syllabi/program of DEI terminology so it doesn't get flagged, but also (2) Don't teach about content that wasn't advertised as part of the course. Then get fired either way.
“Texas A&M President Mark
Welsh was heard saying in a phone call with the student that the university would review the children’s literature course, adding that ‘there’s not a problem‘ teaching LGBT literature as long as the university clearly states that it will be part of a class.”

Gone are the days of expecting the government to do its job to protect public health, so a small way we can enact the values of justice and love in our every day lives is to mask up if you're feeling sick.

It's how you say "I care about others" in a world devoid of compassion.

Promoted with Tenure! It’s definitely an inflection point, and I’m grateful to share this milestone with friends & colleagues who supported us though so much along the way. It’s a strange time to be in academia (to say the least), but here’s to keeping up the fight as ever, as always.

So the difference between an "Antisemitism training" and the *DEI EFFORTS THEY'RE BANNING* is what again?
"Introducing the (antisemitism) training has not helped Northwestern’s relationship with the Trump administration. Even after implementing it, the administration cut $790m in research funding. Trump is now trying to extract further concessions."

"No concession will ever be enough." A very slow lesson for so many institutions and orgs.
Universities are rushing to eliminate the terms diversity, equity and inclusion from all programming while forcing students to sit through pro-Israel propaganda and are still being attacked by the Trump administration. No concession will ever be enough.
