Also depressing that a lot of the replies are trying to explain to Extremely Online Lefties that demands that do something actually do something, which they refuse to believe because it fits their world view better if nothing does anything.

in real terms, #7 would give states leverage to put an end to surges, #8 would give states the ability to outright stop construction of new detention facilities, #1 and #6 would slow the rate at which DHS could train and deploy officers, #2 and #10 would likely shrink the pool of recruits

Pink Floyd “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict”
Deleted a post about “what’s your least favorite song” because the vibes are bad enough already.

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)

that stage of society when school children share the bond of having endured the camps together
The two children who returned to MN today say they saw one of their Valley View schoolmates at a detention center in TX. This is a child whose family was last in contact with the school on January 9. No one has known where they were until now.

This dude is an even bigger scumbag and coward than this. He didn’t just attack the group. No, first he singled out the girl in the group and attacked her. These are the dudes who think they’re alphas.

To be clear, I’m not into horses. I don’t know much about horses. To my knowledge, I’ve never in any way expressed or maybe even hinted at an interest in horses. So why is Windows asking me about horses? I didn’t even know what a Konik is. I had to Google that.

HOW WAS THIS ALL JUST HAPPENING AND NO ONE DID ANYTHING

HOW?????
Among the emails was a 2009 missive in which Mr. Ross responded supportively when Mr. Epstein told him he was contemplating funding an art exhibition, tentatively titled “Statutory,” that would showcase underage models dressed to look older than they were.

Wow this is stunning. It also answers a question I was wondering and that others on here were asking, which is why doesn’t she resign. Apparently she’s tried to quit and DOJ won’t let her because they don’t have/can’t find a replacement.

And this is utterly insane:

Wow. Was genuinely steeling myself for SCOTUS to find a way to strike down CA after having upheld TX. I guess my cynicism was unwarranted this time.

Looking forward to the inevitable Trump meltdown even though he’s the one who started this.

No details on whether she picked them up from a truck stop egg salad sandwich.

This is also not her coming out as a Trill, which is disappointing.

The “hateful rhetoric” has been entirely from the right. But ok, I get that what he means here specifically is any and all criticism of/protest against DHS/ICE. Fine. So what he’s saying very plainly is, “Criticizing us is to blame for us executing you. You were warned.”

Incredible. They destroyed a great newspaper because they hated the people who actually paid for it and read it so much that they'd rather scrap the paper if they couldn't get Tucker Carlson's audience bsky.app/profile/maxt...

What Bezos has done to the Post is a travesty. I was reading the paper daily from when I was 11 or 12. One of the most important newspapers in this nation’s history. And I read the book section was one of the first sections I opened to every Sunday. There’s no getting over this loss.
WaPo's Matt Murray told staff the paper is shuttering sports, moving remaining staff to features, shrinking foreign coverage, restructuring metro, closing books coverage, suspending Post Reports podcast

“Whole company now waiting for a live or die email” one staffer said

I’m not a fancy big city businessman but it’s called The Washington Post and to nuke local dc coverage, coverage of official Washington’s actions at home and abroad, roll back coverage of insignificant things that nobody cares about like *checks notes* sports(?!?!?)seems like a bad business decision

What really irritates me is the strictly performative nature of this. It isn’t principled. Trump doesn’t know a single fact about Columbus, and I doubt Stephen Miller does either, other than what he can glean from scanning Wikipedia. But this will “own the libs,” so we get to burn time and resources

They voted for this. They voted for these policies. And more to the point, they voted for this AGAIN after it was disastrous for them his first term. But because they got a massive bailout they erased the actual economic reality from their minds. No one gets to act surprised about ANY OF THIS!

This is preying on my mind a bit. Jeffrey Epstein was not primarily a British scandal! So far we've removed a Prince from the Royal family, fired our US ambassador who was one of the most important political figures of the last few decades and banned the CEO of Barclays from the financial industry..
One by one, Europeans mentioned in the Epstein files who still hold political office are beginning to resign or are being forced out of office.

Meanwhile, ruled by an administration almost entirely made up of Epstein associates, the US carries on as if nothing really happened.
