PERCY: I met a traveller from an antique land, who said—

CHOTINER: So you didn't go to this land yourself?

P: No, but he saw these vast and trunkless legs of stone…

C: And you're taking his word for it?

P: The legs were Ozymandius', the King of Kings!

C: And is there any evidence of this King?
"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings. I have a very particular set of works. Works that make ye mighty despair. Works that make me a nightmare for travelers like you. If you put my trunk back on my legs of stone, that'll be the end of it. But if you don't, I will find you, and I will kill you."

“Stop talking about identity!” says man who regularly references his husband and how the GOP wants to break up his family.

Jesus, Pete.
Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25
Pete Buttigieg critiques Democrats for focus on identity
The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

It was never truly a debate about whether cutting trans folks loose would pave a path to victory, it was about whether est. Dems had the courage and the will to stand up for marginalized groups. Harris’ nonresponse to Tr*mp’s anti trans ads was not political calculus, it was laziness and weakness.
"The debate over whether Democrats need to cut trans people loose in order to win elections should be over."
For @msnbc.com I wrote about how Tuesday's election gives Democrats the blueprint for overcoming Republican anti-trans attacks and how thus should settle all the talk about throwing trans people under the bus.

JD Vance's half-brother has lost by an overwhelming margin as he tried to become the mayor of Cincinnati.

As Mamdani nears victory, Democrats worry about national fallout
The progressive candidate is on the cusp of a historic mayoral win. And that's adding to unease among Democrats looking for a way back to national power.

Young people, stop worrying about the government policing your body and your mind, instead get tips on how to get a job producing computerized slop created out of pulverized and reprocessed human content, at least until we figure out a way to create slop from actual humans.
So, all the stories about politics are going to be replaced with pieces about... career development?

The same thing happened in ‘16 when pundits wagged their finger at Hillary for not talking enough about jobs, and then the Daily Show (?) made a supercut of Hill talking about jobs in every stump speech. (This doesn’t exonerate her campaign, just highlights the selective/magical thinking of pundits)
The actual finding here is that a huge percentage of the population believes things that are not true. Democrats objectively did not spend significant time on climate change or LGBTQ issues in the last election campaign.
Duh. Those of us on the ground last year actually speaking with middle class/working class voters and who heard from these voters every single day the same - “Trump is an asshole, but Democrats are out of touch” - could’ve saved my new political party a lot of time & money producing this “report.”👇
October 28, 2025 at 2:14 PM
Imagine, for a moment, if you will, if LBJ had used this report's logic when trying to pass the Civil Rights Act.

It actually *is* meaningful to stand for something because it is right, even when it's not popular.

That Dems want to push the enbeigeification of their already-weak brand is pathetic
yep and points 3 and 4 are explicitly about throwing a whole bunch of my friends, colleagues, neighbors, and loved ones under the bus, so fuck this.
i'm fine with a deeper focus on economic issues over social issues but man does plank 2 give the game away

If you've been wondering how to tell ring-tailed lemurs apart, Duke Lemur Center has a very wonderful graph mapping individual variations based on ear angle and pointiness

Pointiness range is Round to Elf
Angle range is Cat (straight up) to Airplane (side-to-side)
