Re-upping this story as Massachusetts residents testify today on Rep. Danielle Gregoire’s proposal to ban the use of electric shock & aversive therapies on disabled people. The bill, which targets the Judge Rotenberg Center, has been offered in every legislative session since 2015.
#StopTheShock
Advocates push legislation to permanently stop electric shock on disabled people
The Judge Rotenberg Center in Massachusetts is the only U.S. school that uses the aversive therapy to change people's behavior.

Lots of lessons Michelle Zenarosa shares in this
@poynterinstitute.bsky.social piece about
@lapublicpress.bsky.social journalists covering ICE raids in their own neighborhoods. I appreciate every newsroom working on the fly to support & protect their reporters against these very real dangers 🙏🏾

I have also found this to be true. It is why I am still alive. Every time I go through a depression I can’t imagine there is anything coming that I’ll be happy to be alive for. There always is.

Doesn’t make the despair any easier to live through, but helps me remember how necessary it is to do so.
I've said this over and over, but someone needs to hear this, right now:

Virtually all of the best things in my life were things I had absolutely no way of predicting, even a few months ahead of time.

We have no real way of imagining our future, and yet despair is always based on that imagination.

Emailed my unofficial (but official) college advisor last week to thank him for telling me to seek an ADHD eval while I while was in undergrad. His reply was so VALIDATING & ENCOURAGING, I started tearing up. I appreciate him — & everybody who has encouraged me/helped me navigate this — so much. 🙏🏾

A friend told me a few months ago that she thought I was neurodivergent because she felt safer around me & is always safer around ND people. I said I was SO flattered & always felt safer w/ her but that I wasn’t 💛💛

Reader, today I was diagnosed with ADHD.

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

If you want to understand open adoption, it makes sense to start with birth parents—yet studies of them are few. 2+ yrs ago, I began talking w/ birth mothers to try to understand what living in an open adoption is like for them, and what rights or options they might have if challenges were to arise.
When Adoption Promises Are Broken
Many birth mothers hope to maintain contact with their child. But their agreements with adoptive parents can be fragile.
