I think the DOJ criminal probe is the biggest threat to federal reserve independence since its formation. Hard to overstate the chill for officials making policy under threat of criminal prosecution. Shows there is no independent fed without an independent DOJ.

The unprecedented challenge to the fed’s independence is an important part of the story surrounding the criminal probe. More far-reaching and troubling is the total subservience of the justice dept and Pirro to trump. We seem to have become numb to this. It is not normal and it’s very dangerous.
