"It's a distraction!" "It's a distraction!"

Listen: I need you to understand that this administration is capable of doing multiple evil things at the same time.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

This is such a perfect illustration of the solipsism of Trump's worldview. I'm sure the 6 million people living in Somaliland know what it is, as do most of the 13 million people in the rest of Somalia, for starters. But since Trump himself had never heard of it, he thinks nobody knows anything.

My (non-Tolkien-fan) partner saw my copy of The Bovadium Fragments on the shelf and said "geez, they're publishing every scrap from this man's life -- when are the grocery lists coming out?"

This post reminds me that I have yet to come upon a tarot deck illustrated with root vegetable recipes -- a taro tarot, if you will. If an international team of African/Asian/Oceanian artists were to get together and do such a thing I would back that Kickstarter so hard.
Support an artist by getting an indie oracle or tarot deck.

They make excellent tools for creative writing.

The people who make GenAI are avowed eugenicists. That the chatbots encourage suicide is, to them, a feature not a bug, because it culls the weak from society.

After we're done with the ICE Nuremberg trials, we're going to need Nuremberg trials for everyone involved in creating genAI.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

100% open borders. Going from Mexico to the US should be no different from going from New York to Pennsylvania.

(Also I don't think of any of my opinions as un-woke -- anytime I disagree with others on the left it's because I disagree about what the wokest take would be.)
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

By far the most destructive economic myth is that rich people are where money comes from. This is the opposite of true. Rich people are the stagnant pools in which money uselessly collects and goes sour.
Despite threats, billionaires don't leave the largest population centers, because it's where there is the most money to be had from the collective value generated by human beings, and despite what they insist, they don't generate wealth; they collect it.

Here's my lesson plan for teaching my students how to use GenAI ethically. It's intended for undergrads in environmental science, but I think you can adapt it easily enough for other levels/majors:

DON'T.
One thing that I’ve become increasingly certain of over the course of this year:

As an academic, I do not have (and never will have) a responsibility to teach students to use Gen AI ‘ethically’ (as if that were possible).

The idea that academics should be doing this is a blight on the sector.

Think how many millions of public school students have created glorious holiday art with their own minds and hands this month.

Weingarten could be sharing actual art and celebrating actual human kids whom the @aft.org is supposed to be serving.

But no. She's sharing "A.i." garbage based on theft.
This one was such fun… so I am sharing

They don't want to give AI rights because they genuinely believe AI is conscious and care about it as a fellow being.

They want to give AI rights so that they can program a million lackeys who will vote to support their agenda.
it’s hard to think of a bigger grift than the claim that predictive text aka gAI is ‘conscious’ and thus “deserve rights” like the ability to vote

That privilege--the privilege to speak of your religious beliefs as certainties that are incontestable--is given to Christians alone in America. And anyone else knows this and tiptoes around it, reflexively.

But what if we stopped doing that, like this guy did in North Dakota?
