Great summary of IQ - the history, the misunderstanding of it, the reality of it. When teaching normal distribution, it always annoys me that all the questions are about IQ and I always do a little rant about it! www.aft.org/ae/winter202...

This is really interesting. As a maths teacher, this isn’t something I realised was happening
In schools the GCSE options process is gearing up - but what are the unintended consequences of setting up subjects as products and pupils as consumers?

Lovely ideas here for a nice calm end to the term
Had a very nice calm period 5 with Y7 doing some colouring in. I could hear the chaos of the elf game going on in the room next door and was very glad I’d gone for this instead! #MathsToday

Good morning!
It’s Sunday, which means it’s #Edujobs #EduSky time!
If you’re looking for a new move and you’re an educator; if you don’t want a classroom job, this is your hour.

Interesting that the BBC will call National Rally "Far Right" (in an article about Bardella meeting Farage) - when they would never use that term for Reform. Their policies are very similar. If anything Reform's are more authoritarian.

Good sensible thread
1. There's going to be a lot of talk about over or under diagnosis and the conversation is going to be a mess.
This is because how ADHD and ASD are defined has shifted. An ADHD diagnosis today isn't the same thing as an ADHD diagnosis ten years ago.

6. For this to be useful the conversation absolutely must not be about whether ADHD and ASD are being over diagnosed. Instead it should be "how are these diagnoses being arrived at and are they helping people?"
This means looking at processes, interventions and a wide range of outcomes.

Working in ITT, I feel a bit further removed from the impact of my role (compared with classroom teaching). But a couple of really positive things today have made me see how far some trainees have come this term and how positively that will be impacting students in their classrooms ☺️

In #MathsToday Y13 filled this normal distribution table #ALevelMaths

I love this resource, especially when students get to the second one of the bottom row and get stuck, at which point I usually prompt them to look for where 0.7778 appears elsewhere. But today, that didn’t happen…

In #MathsToday I used stem sentences to support teaching of expanding brackets. I was pleasantly surprised to hear pupils respond to questions using the structure of the stem sentence without me prompting them to do so. Would love to hear others' experiences of stem sentences in secondary maths.

After #MathsToday I created a new fill in the blanks generator on Normal Distribution.

You can choose what is revealed / hidden for any randomly generated distribution by clicking. Easy to screenshot into a presentation, or use live.

This has been my worry all along with the breakfast club nonsense. You can talk about funding all you like, the long and the short of it is that school leaders end up with another job on the list, another extension to their working day, and the job becomes ever harder...
And this is from DfE advice!
