If the experience of being a consumer in the insurance marketplace is any indication, the majority of people do not have the time and knowledge to price shop for one product (insurance), much less multiple health care services and procedures—some of which will be time sensitive.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

I'm the rare consumer who's been trying to secure health care prices in advance for years because of my high-deductible plan where I essentially pay everything. Very rarely am I able to get any answer—even when asking well in advance about run of the mill appointments.

The legislators suggesting $1,000 in an HSA as a way to solve this crisis really do not understand. It does someone no good to get $1,000 in an HSA when they can't afford the health insurance plan that is required to be paired with that HSA. A plan with a deductible well in excess of $1,000.

When I was getting radiation to treat my cancer I was super tired all the time. Took some significant effort not to just nod off in the middle of meetings. Even brought a cot into the office.

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Finally someone asks the right question. Of course they are going to buy insurance from insurance companies because they are protecting against financial ruin. Giving people money to pay for their health care expenses does not take away that risk.
TRUMP: We’re going to give Americans the money to buy health insurance

REPORTER: But won’t they buy it from
Insurance companies?

TRUMP: Ahhh. Some may. I mean they’ll be negotiating prices

I’ve spent two decades “negotiating my insurance” as a small business owner and then tracking and evaluating every expenditure. It’s difficult and time consuming and the vast majority of people do not have the bandwidth to do it. Individuals have zero negotiating power. That’s not changing.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Parks and Rec isn't a hill to die on, but one thing it gets right is this whole government thing rests on the shoulders of people you will never know, caring a lot about jobs you've never heard of, fighting challenges thrown at them from every angle just to make life a little better for everyone.

Thinking I'm going to pull an all-nighter so I can log on to my health insurance website at midnight and see what my new premium will be. Seems like a good scary Halloween activity.

A reminder that food banks can make your money go so much further than you can. A $20 donation to your local food bank will secure far more food than you can buy for the same amount at the grocery store because they buy in bulk at wholesale prices.

You know what helps with being able to afford having and raising children? Affordable health insurance.
Dr Oz: "Turns out that about 1/3 families don't have the number of babies they desire. They're under-babied. So this president committed to address that during the campaign and he's delivering on that today."

Yep. Loved the subway when I lived in New York and love it when I visit. Best way to get around the city. Buses too!
if you're not from or have never been to new york i cannot stress enough how normal the subway is 99% of the time. kids take it to school. everyone is basically chill. you learn to be in proximity with harmless weirdos or minor irritations pretty quick. for all its issues it's an incredible thing

Every time I've asked to pay the cash price I've been told I'm not allowed access to that price because I have insurance. The logic goes, if I have insurance, I'm required to use it, even in the case when my insurance does not cover the test or procedure.
Offered a cash price for a prenatal genetic test? It may be your best bet
An expectant mom got a $750 bill for a blood test to check for genetic abnormalities in her baby. Then she tried to figure out why it was so high.
