We remember them today.

This is Y Ravine cemetery in Beaumont-Hamel. Only a third of the men buried here were identified, as many were not reclaimed from the Somme until long after the fighting had ceased.

Heroes, every one of them.

This is INCREDIBLE. The Bearded Vulture has multigenerational nests that last for hundreds of years, built in very secluded places — and they’re FULL OF ANTHROPOGENIC ARTIFACTS.
super cool study found human artifacts in Bearded vulture nests, incl. "weaponry like a crossbow bolt and wooden lance, decorated sheep leather, and parts of a slingshot....a shoe made from twigs and grass is ~675-years-old." link to paper: doi.org/10.1002/ecy..... www.popsci.com/environment/... 🧪🌍🦉

Think carefully as to whether or not that tired old gravestone needs a tidy up… you may be poking a hornets nest. Today’s blog is here! 🎃 cemeteryclub.wordpress.com/2025/10/01/t...

I remember having a chat with volunteer at Kilcrumper (Fermoy) and he had limits as to what could be done - substantially limited to vegetation cut back

I did thing it was a bit harsh for a small group interested in maintaining an old cemetery but after that article......

Historians everywhere go ‘what the hell are you talking about?’
Hegseth: "As history teaches us, the only people who actually deserve peace and those who are willing to wage war to defend it. That's why pacifism is so naive and dangerous."

Alfred Ball. Hull, 1864 - East London, 1926. Gosh Manor Park Cemetery is beautiful! It's a perfect sunny day and there's gospel coming from somewhere near, which helps. I cleaned some empty old bottles off of Alec, though. Alf is in a prime spot near the central chapel.

Any fans of #brutalist architecture? A big chunky concrete tomb here with owls representing wisdom. This thing is huge and was built in the 1920s.

No idea who Dominico Guido was, who lies inside this tomb in a Roman style sarcophagus with his wife Consicilia.

Culprits found - The Limerick Society of London. Astonishing. The meant well, it wasn’t done with malice, but Christ alive.

NEVER restore a grave unless you know what you’re doing - and get permission.

I didn’t know Wolfenden’s son was gay. That makes this document even more remarkable
#TodayInQueerHistory
September 4 (1957)
The Wolfenden Report is published in the UK. It recommends that homosexual acts between consenting adults should not be illegal.
It said there ‘must remain a realm of private morality and immorality which is, in brief and crude terms, not the law's business.'
